The missing ingredient is ... probability
Summary:
Alpha: "I demand evidence of abiogenesis, otherwise my GodDidIt theory is true."
Thread: "Provides evidence"
Alpha: "I don't like this evidence."
Thread: "Provides more evidence"
Alpha: "This isn't peer reviewed."
Thread: "Gives peer reviewed citations"
Alpha: "I don't like this evidence. See? Your position has no evidence. Therefore, GodDidIt."
Thread: "Provide evidence to support GodDidIt"
Alpha: "I don't have any. I WIN THE DEBATE!"
Thread: "That's not how logic or debate works. Abiogenesis is still more probable than <God exists> and <God created life>. There's more evidence for abiogenesis than either of those.
Alpha: "You're just mad! I win! I win the debate! YAAY! GODDIDIT!"

This is why I blocked the moron and stopped responding to the thread. The pigeon chess analogy is spot on with this idiot.

Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense. You're just not keeping up.

I think that alfalfa has proven that, at least in his case, the missing ingredient is...

grey matter

Kudos to you guys coz you've summarized alpha m's arguments quite nicely. Smile i'd post a gif of clapping but im on mobile.

@alpha male:
"There are none so blind as those who refuse to see."

Feel free to project it back to me if you wish. Know this though, we all presented solid evidence. You did not.

Confirmatory bias
Argument from ignorance.

Those are at the crux of your arguments.

alpha lets say that abiogenesis is just a hypothesis which has not been backed up. So what?

Unfortunately that's a lie. All the major steps have been reproduced in the lab.
He's just too stupid and obtuse to know when and where.
Just more proof however that his beligion is a "god of the gaps". If there he had an answer to the question, he wouldn't *need* a god. I thought beligion was a "personal relationship with Jebus". I see it's not. It's all about cognitive closure, and a requirement for explanations, not about relationship(s).

Word to the wise. Don't listen to "word on the streets" when you live in Stupid Town.

Yeah but even if abiogenesis was proven false what's the difference is it for him?

IMHO, this is the wrong approach. You are trying to argue against abject nonsense with reason. But people don't come to a belief in aliens or gods or leprechauns through reason. They latch onto these ideas for emotional reasons - either because they see it as socially appropriate, or because they like the consequences of it being true.

The most effective approach then is to try to figure out the motive, and attack it emotionally. If they have latched onto it for social reasons, then ridicule them for the idea. Try to embarass them over it. Gasp

If they've latched onto it because they like the imagined outcome, then highlight the outcome of alternatives - hey, if there are no gods, then you don't need to feel ashamed about sex, just take precautions and enjoy it guilt free. Also, are you *really* sure that Jesus hates porn? Evil_monster

Once they start to feel emotionally conflicted *then* they are open to reasoned argument. But usually, not before that.
