I've camped and hiked there, and many places on the coast, as well. Once my second wrist surgery is complete and healed, we'll likely go to San Simeon campground. My wife and I were just talking about that today. Anywhere with the redwoods is nice camping (though in a 26 foot trailer, "camping" is a pretty loose term). I volunteered for the Boy Scouts of America for 15 years, and have spent enough time back packing into the middle of nowhere and sleeping on the ground to last me for the rest of my life.

Couldn't agree more. If gawd had intended us to sleep on the ground He'd never have created Temperpedic mattresses, emirate? But when we were younger we backpacked a lot.

For a while we were canoeing into spot to make a base camp with lots of 'extras' like camp chairs with foot rests along with air mattresses and foam. Then we'd take day hikes and swims from there - with both dogs of course.

“Tiger got to hunt, bird got to fly;
Man got to sit and wonder 'why, why, why?'
Tiger got to sleep, bird got to land;
Man got to tell himself he understand.”

― Kurt Vonnegut, Cat's Cradle

My bud Willie and I used to hike that often when I went to HS in Paso Robles. What a beautiful place!

I don't do camping, myself. Never had the time, between work, family scattered across the country, and so on -- vacation times were always spoken-for. But it was always inportant to me to get my son out and active. From an early age, we cycled (up to 15 miles a pop, him being seven years old), hiking, canoeing, and so on.

It was a great way to teach him about science and the world, how we can look at little things on the ground and infer great things in the past, and just move muscles beyond the fast-twitch required for an Xbox.

You look like you can fight.

You don't look like a dick though. You look like the type of dude who finishes shit instead of starting it. I like the birds!
