Perhaps I shall elaborate, watch any interview with Sarah Phelps is a good start. The routine goes as a schedule of emotions. Well mannered, a little angered but still calm, feisty, furious, and then finally cat fight. Next watch any recorded ad featuring Fred Phelps as anchor and/or as minister as he somehow goes from gays reproducing WW2 to eating babies at the apocalypse, and then occasional random screech of "GOD HATES FAGS" reminiscent of when Hitler broadcasted his rage in his speeches. Next watch some of their picket videos, and align this with their numerous run ins with the law, if you watch the countless insults they have presented against the Constitution and then watch them use the very same document to defend themselves in court, and don't be hesitant to watch the many mock picketers (one of my online friends who is a theist actually participated in one in Chicago with a Chuck Norris sign) among the majority of the American population this all and more indeed qualifies as silly, funny and absurd.

Ok, I see what you mean. You are referring to the way the message is delivered, rather than the message being radically different from what other evangelicals believe. In that context, I agree with you that Phelps makes Evangelicals like Sarah Palin look like very reasonable people. And I do agree that most Americans (Evangelicals included) would find the Phelps anti-Americanism totally absurd.

Why do I think this is among the silliest?
People that believe this say God did not write the Bible, but inspired it. The inspiration supposedly gave the authors freedom of expression such that the details did not come from God, but the underlying messages did. The problem is people then use this as an excuse to explain everything in the Bible that contradicts common sense as being "details" and everything that doesn't as being "underlying messages". How very convenient! Plus, how does one accurately separate details from the underlying messages anyway? And why would any god communicate in such a confusing manner?
