Democracy is not fundamentally flawed, it is the election systems that are flawed.

I don't think that's necessarily true, I think the system gives power to those who are prepared to be corrupt.

Voter will never properly research these things. Even if they wanted to (which they don't) there isn't enough time to study every facet of Government.

The current system is skewed in favour of the 2 largest parties (labour and the Tories). If the number of seats were proportional to the number of votes they would still be the biggest but not as big as under the current system, they would have to be far more careful about what they promise and don't deliver as there is a far greater chance that one of the smaller parties will take their seats also meaning they are less likely to pull shit like this as it will actually cost them big during the election.

I'd be surprised if PR ever happened. Everyone likes the idea but I bet the majority of the country would hate in practice, for one reason. It gives more power to extremist parties. There have been vocal calls for the BNP to be banned in the past, how will those people react to them gaining a share of the seats. And which politician wants to risk being labelled as the person who opened the door to the BNP?

One does not need to understand every facet of government in order to make an educated decision on who the vote for. The average voter only selects the candidate based on mundane social issues.

You would to make a rounded decision. You'd need to know every party's approach (and have researched the pros and cons of them) on everything from defence to waste disposal.

You wouldn't wanna choose your party based solely on their approach to education only to find out after the election they knew nothing about healthcare, the economy, energy.

True but the bnp doesnt tend to get enough of the vote that it would have much effect. They also only seem to get votes in a few regions in England (and only get seats when there is a low turnout in those areas). If you factor in the votes from everywhere else they are tiny in comparison.

Behold the power of the force!

Yes, understand what they are running for, not understand every aspect of government.

If they found Cameron's stash of porn I think I would laugh so hard a little bit of pee would come out.

You would be right to do so.

For real though, when ever anti porn crusaders start on with family values, and equating all porn with child porn, and people who look at porn with child rapists, it make them look very fucking suspect.

I think this is dumb as hell.
Here in Britain we have a newspaper called the 'sun' and it has a page 3 girl...basically it is a topless girl on page 3 (which anyone can buy) and some how that's fine
Also normal freeview Satellite TV's get porn channel already installed on the system.....

Really annoyed at my country right now...

What's everyone's thought on this?

Personally i have to agree, i am seriously embarrassed by this policy, other nations must be in stitches. at what point is this government going to stop trying to protect its voter's from invisible threats. what ever happened to Britain being a place of freedom of thought and expression. absolutely furious. does this government really think they have a responsibility to step in and take this chioce away from its public.

quite frankly i would rather have a healthy amount of, lets say, the more niche part of the porn industry, available to the public, rather than those individuals having to find more public outlets to satisfy there needs. come on Mr Cameron this is NOT an issue/problem for the vast majority.
heaven knows what his advisers are thinking, but this is not gonna win him votes at the next general election.

i seriously doubt this is gonna pass threw parliment and lords its just too outrageous. and it shows how out of touch our government is with its people.
Very disappointed indeed.
