RE: The uk blocking porn
Find the logic:
-Ban porn to retain moral standards...
...and at the same time...
-Keep 26 unelected bishops in the House of Lords...

TL;DR version: a good democracy is hard to find and probably think your dick is too short

Long version:
Fact is that the UK political system is severly flawed in some aspects. the hereditary peerage, the power of the Crown, the absence of a constitution (can't say the Magna Carta is one), the underrepresentation of other political parties due to the 'first past the post'-system.
It offers tradition, stability and power of action, but offers little room for debate. In cases like this, a government can take decisions without too much opposition.

Then again, it raises the question: what would be a good system then?

An electoral threshold of 2% like in Israel? Result is great plurality, ranging from fanatic Zionists to secular Arab parties. No government can be formed without alliance of several parties with often opposing views, often making it mandatory to include more extreme characters.

The German presidential system? The Bundesversammlung (combination of the Bundestag/parliament and an equal amout of regional representatives) elects one and it doesn't have to be a political figure. Currently it's Joachim Gauck, and independent civil rights activist.

I'll make a seperate thread about this subject. Might be interesting... Smile

Back to porn:
There has been some research that pornography distorts the image of "healthy" sexuality as it represents a an unrealistic view of sex. Not everyone has a 12 inch cock able to pound for hours. Not every woman enjoys double anal penetration. Being a pizza delivery boy or plumber won't make you a sex symbol, even if your female client is strapped for cash. Big Grin

Now the questions are: is it the task of the government to control sexuality? Shouldn't parents have a say in what is good or not? what about sex ed?
Shouldn't people be free to believe whatever they want when watching porn? If I want to believe a huge dick is the sole guarantee for getting laid all the time, stepping outside and venturing in the real world will bring me back to reality very soon Tongue
What about addictions then? Can there be a porn addiction? (Yup, exists) Should the government help with that?
Is porn a problem on it's own or is it part of a human identity crisis in a globalized world?

I'd like to conclude with my opinion that the "problems" of porn are not just a question of right or wrong, but are to be part of a larger entity. The problems of individuality, social tissue degeneration, morals and ethics, the absence of the ONE and RIGHT solution for everything... Banning my daily bukkake won't make the world a better place and I recognize the fact that not every woman likes to swallow my pee while inserting an aubergine in her ass. A government ban won't change that. If you are unable to understand those facts about porn, you shouldn't have the state of mind to vote (and maybe need to seek some help)

Meh, I don't see the problem.
If, and that's a big if, they manage to do this, the next election an opposing party will just have to use a slogan like "we'll bring back the porn" and it will be an instant win... Nothing can stop the porn, that's a law of nature...

That's just like stating antisemitic laws aren't a problem either. It was fine to be a jew in Germany before 1933 and after 1945. There were some slight problems in between but in the end everything got settled, right? RIGHT??? Everyone was happy in the end and the jews got a nice and peaceful spot in a former British mandate area that was hardly inhabited anyway. yeeeeey, happy endings for all!

Don't underestimate the power of stupidity and the effets of totalitarian governments.

The issue of people addicted to porn and having unrealistic expectations is an issue
But then you look at the amount of money and damages that is caused by binge drinkers in the country and it suddenly becomes a non issue...the government is completely fighting the wrong problem

That would be solved it money was put into teaching better sex education. And forcing it on religious schools. I went to a catholic school and sex education was virtually non existing.

Behold the power of the force!
