Having to deal with people who look at you like you are missing out on something that is about as useful as a football bat.

I can do that.
  • I won't get 72 virgins when I die.
  • I won't get this undeniable sense that I'm right, even if I can't prove it to anyone else.
  • I have to wear my seat belt because I know I'm not immortal.
  • I don't have an instruction manual for life, anymore.
  • No more free wine on Sunday mornings.
  • Now, the voices in my head scare me.
  • Now, when I masturbate, it just feels good. I don't get to experience all that guilt that used to go with it.
  • I have to figure out morality for myself. I don't get to just do what some other guy told me to do.

Or one in which the gods rewarded critical thinking and believers were just mocked forever for being so gullible.

I often feel that way. Like "you may think you are right now, but when you die you'll find out the truth." But they won't. Because they'll be dead. It's kind of sad knowing that some people die convinced that it's not the end. I feel sorry for them.

As for my worst thing about being an atheist, finding it hard to communicate with the average person who believes, having to hold back and not say things I should be saying when religion is the topic and nodding agreeably so as to avoid friction. It's painful sometimes.

Nothing.

Understanding that magic does not exist, and being too smart to subscribe to fairy tales gives me the satisfaction of a position of intellectual superiority that gives me great comfort, and confidence.

Don't feel too bad. It's a mistranslation. It's 72 *grapes*. Weeping

I saw that before. What if 72 grapes is a metaphor for 36 men? Consider

You can hardly call it Heaven if it's 36 men with grapes.

Now if by "grapes" you really mean "grapefruits," I could see the reasoning behind the myth.

I have nothing to compare it too. Never experienced any form of believing in a god so..................nothing to complain about. Hey it's all good.

Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors.... on Donald J. Trump:

He is deformed, crooked, old, and sere,
Ill-fac’d, worse bodied, shapeless every where;
Vicious, ungentle, foolish, blunt, unkind,
Stigmatical in making, worse in mind.

At this present moment....

Not having enough balls to come out to everyone because of the devastation it will cause my family and friends, as well as the ostracizing that will occur afterwards.

To me there are two things: (1) the voluntary censorship in certain social gatherings where I just grin and walk away b/c I don't want to cause a shit storm and (2) when I express an "atheist" thought the look of utter horror that would be similar if I had just admitted to being in the KKK or a Nazi.

In the first instance many times I'll choose not to rock the boat despite the stupidity being discussed.
In the second instance I am amazed at the horrible reputation and stereotype that is associated with the term atheist.
