While I would agree I'm sure Bucky made some good points on this a while back, may have been Chas. About how if you make them pay tax then they have more right in how that money is spent etc.. which is never a good thing.

The flaw with that being that religion petty much already dominates your politics.

Precisely. They already violate the laws that are supposed to keep them in check, so if they are doing so, tax the living shit out of them.
