I surprise even myself now when I read this last post I wrote here... Too bad I can't like or give rep to myself.

Oh the modesty...

3) Because the founding fathers were Christians.
Nearly all of them were deists
Some atheists,i don't even know whether any of them was actually Christian

RE: They actually say this stuff?
I read a letter to the editor today, where a guy wrote in spouting some rubbish premise that 'scientists believed in god in the past, and would have been horrified that god wasn't included in science', while dotting on trying to connect this to evolution. Rolleyes

If I find the letter to the editor tomorrow I will photocopy it and post it here. Wink

I was quoting a popularly used crap argument. I don't actually subscribe to it! Smile

English is not my first language. If you think I am being mean, ask me. It could be just a wording problem.

This one to me is mesmerizing! The reasons people give for it are usually:
1) Because the Declaration of Independence talks about "god" and the "creator".
2) Because the Constitution is founded on the Ten Commandments
3) Because the founding fathers were Christians.

Ummm...

1. The Declaration mentions 'year of our Lord' as a time reference. It doesn't recognize a specific creator.
2. No it isn't. 2 commandments are actual US laws IIRC. Shall not kill, shall not steal. Thou shalt not covent thy neighbors wife is not a law brah.
3. They were secular and in many cases, deists. The nation was founded on separation between church and state so that no one faith/belief would be persecuted by the majority or by the government.

“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect.”

AND so that the church does not have the power of the state.

Although truth be told America is a democracy and in a democracy majority rules. So as long as the Christians are in power it will be a Christian country. sorry

I'm homophobic in the same way that I'm arachnophobic. I'm not scared of gay people but I'm going to scream if I find one in my bath.

I'm. Also homophobic in the same way I'm arachnophobic. I'm scared of spiders but I'd still fuck'em.

Ah yes, the majority, but what majority? What Christians? Baptists? Evangelicals? Roman-Catholics? There are more sects of Christianity in USA than any other religion, so that waters it down. You would be surprised how many atheists/agnostics there are in USA. And what about your CONSTITUTION which clearly was written by secular people for secular republic? Yeah, who cares, we will ignore the foundations of the country and just declare it to be a theocracy, why the hell not?

Except the US is not a democracy... It's a Democratic Republic. The electoral college is an example of how we aren't a true democracy. There is also the fact that a "Christian nation" implies some sort of official endorsement, which is not the case.

Better without God, and happier too.
