[quote]Every year Salem is inundated with street preachers during out Halloween celebrations. They spend most every weekend during October telling us to "Turn or Burn." I've been recording their interactions with people for a couple of years now for a long running art project, and while this young guy was preaching, a little girl just ran up and started laying into him.

How does this indicate that's not what happened? I see nothing inconsistent about that with what I said.

One of two things were happening: 1) either she was acting out because she had an "audience", or 2) the camera man was encouraging the girl to act out. That's the most logical conclusion based on the video evidence.

Or 3) she was feeling self conscious about having a camera pointed at her, but chose to be brave and continue anyway or 4) the camera person or someone behind him/her was doing something distracting.

I'm not sure what her motivation is, but rewatching the video clearly shows the girl is glancing at the camera to figure out what she should do next... Acting out or being used by an adult. It's as plain as day.

You're seeing what supports your preconception. Glancing at the camera is just that. Who knows exactly why... ?

I am not accountable to any God. I am accountable to myself - and not because I think I am God as some theists would try to assert - but because, no matter what actions I take, thoughts I think, or words I utter, I have to be able to live with myself.

As far as I know we've been trying to ignore them for years and they're still around. And that's still giving them a very undeserved cushion. This guy decides to act like a moron and bother everyone, so it's our responsibility to just let him do whatever he wants and hope he gets bored and moves on?

And again, she's way too young for anyone to be expecting strategy from her.

Popcorn I put more thought into fiction than theists put into reality.

They have the same protections under the law to keep them safe and not to be exploited, but they do not have the full fledged rights as a U.S. adult to do what they want when they want like a normal adult. My kids are all under 18, which means they have curfews plus I censor what they are allowed and not allowed to see on TV and the internet. I'm not going to lose sleep over "restricting" my children's freedoms because I'm not letting them consume porn, forcing them to have curfews or holding them to standards of behavior in public places.

None which the things you mentioned are what we're talking about.
Restricting a child from having an opinion you don't agree with is a sign of a bad parent.

Allowing or encouraging a child to yell shut up at someone who's opinion they do not share is also a sign of bad parenting.

My impression from the video was that the girl was coached ahead of time. It was just a vibe I got and I don't really know. If it true then the girl was just a tool of someone else.

The reaction of many in this forum to video reminded me of the reaction of many to a picture of little kid dressed in a mock suicide vest. The infitada crowd thought it was cute.

I still ignore them. What is the alternative? Give them what they are looking for? They want either a confrontation or an audience. This guy got both.

Frankly, I wish all the adults would yell "shut up!" too. It's exactly what these disruptors need to hear. They don't care if they're being rude and disrespectful and, as such, they forfeited their right to be respected.

Standing on a street corner in a commercial district speaking is not disturbing the peace. The guy could have been talking about how great the SHAMWOW is and the police would ignore it.

So they take the bait, the preacher gets what they want. Frankly I am not going to let the actions of others determine my actions. Idiots can be idiots on their own, I am not joining in.
