Every time I sit down.

It's awareness, a mental state, from an integration of inputs from some of your 5 physical senses.

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.

Chas, I'm confused. Did you completely ignore DLJ's post? We have more than 5 senses.

The senses are the input mechanisms to the brain. This is done in more than 5 ways.

Sounds to me like you're paranoid.

And do you really think that is evidence?

Paranoid? What the fuck? You continue to amaze me with your non sequiturs.

I read DLJ's post and disagree. There are five physical senses and a brain capable of massive processing to integrate those inputs.

Guys! Stephen Fry never lies! How dare you doubt!

Also, when we were looking at ways to help my son (with Aspergers) nearly 10 years ago, I had a long conversation with his behavioural pyschologist / occupational therapist who told me about at least 13 different senses.

Wait. Who is speaking to who, here? Please attribute your comments.

Logica, it isn't about paranoia. It is about clear fucking logic. Why cling on to those 5 long-standingly accepted senses after we have established that there are more than 5? For the sake of tradition? Because you don't like science? Really... I'm bemused and befuddled at the antagonism that this has caused with both you and Chas.

I quoted the wrong one. xD

Getting the feeling that someone is behind you when you sit down without using any of the five physical senses? Sounds like paranoia.

No need to get upset. The "senses" you have named are based among other senses. Chas is correct.

So, to return to my previous example, if you were in a flotation tank, deprived of your hearing... with the loss of your sense of touch... you're telling me that you wouldn't know up from down?

Sense of time is an interesting one. If you were deprived of all of your other senses, would you be able to recognise the passage of time, with no landmarks against which to record it?

If you were born with no other senses, how would your (dormant) mind evaluate what time actually was? I like it. Brain Food™.
