Thong's made by prison labor. Capitalism gets sexy.
Ladies, before you get dolled up like a ho, you might want to consider that the piece of clothing acting as a hammock for your loose lips was made by prison labor (formerly called slave labor).

Yes thats right kids, victoria secrets makes their items in Prison. Just imagine, your ladies skid marked undies was once fodder for some dude in prison to jack off to.

No taxation without representation. Convicts must have the vote for this kind of rubbish to be undone.

Give me your argument in the form of a published paper, and then we can start to talk.

We tax under 18's but they're not aloud to vote.

Been over that before. They're Represented by their legal guardians... Yes they may not vote how a kid would like, well its the same with an elected representative.

Yes, you're both right, that system is flawed. Participatory democracy is better than representative democracy. Any person who demonstrates to the standards of the society that they can participate in a sophisticated way, may participate through direct votes on policy, to the degree that those policies effect them.

"Representative" democracy is only another term for lionizing the most popular of the elite class.

Re: OP, yes prison labor is immoral, yes it's slavery, but it's not even close to the biggest problem with prisons. Prisons are a moral wrong in themselves, long before their maintainers start managing budgets through coerced labor. No benefit accrues from caging people. It is torture. The routine abuses of all kinds that happen inside are further torture.

Coerced / forced / slave labor is, on the spectrum of (legal) abuses, less bad than solitary confinement, deprivation of medical care, deprivation of family contact, and dehumanization of every individual inside. Labor does at least provide distraction and skill practice.

In that case, prisoners are represented by their legal caregivers (prison owners).

I would dearly like to hear your alternative to incarceration of violent criminals. Consider

The majority of people in prisons are not violent criminals. I think it's a mistake putting non violent people in there with violent sociopaths. The damage that does is irreversable.

Then there is the rape and violence that happens within the prison which I can't explain without believing that the prison system is corrupt to its core. Each prisoner costs us (the tax payer) roughly 50k per annum. How the fuck with that kind of money are they unable to regulate their activities and stop this kind of shit happening within the prison walls?

Basically, slave labor.

Not exactly a "free market" is it?

Nonsense is nonsense, but the history of nonsense is a very important science.

Violent criminals are a tiny fraction of inmates, at least in the US. The majority of inmates are in for drug crime, and the majority of the rest are in for nonviolent property crime.

As a suggestion... release the drug criminals to rehab programs for 5 years each, and use the savings on the remainder of their sentences for therapeutic re-education of the property criminals and violent criminals. As the property criminals are rehabilitated, rededicate their allocated resources toward additional rehab/re-ed for the violent ones.

Don't spend less money, because that's politically inconvenient... prisons are a flippin' stimulus package for the lawmakers who can land them in their own districts. Rather, spend it more wisely, on effective treatment for as long as needed, instead of incarceration-as-punishment, which helps no one.
