RE: Thoughts on Charlie Brown Christmas special?
It's not necessary to have it at school. It can be found everywhere. My problem isn't that is has a tiny bit of religion, my problem is that schools only show one version of myth beliefs. If they offered different view points I wouldn't care at all. So lets find a chanukah story, a solstice story, a kwanzaa holiday story and such, then let them be exposed to all the myths.

IMO, this actually serves the reason agenda because it exposes them to the idea that their god is not the only one. Once they make that step, doubt and discovery may follow.

As for watching it in school...maybe not. It does end with a very Christian message and not all kids are Christian. The Grinch would be a better choice. Big Grin

I have three Christmas movies...Charlie Brown, Rudolph, and the Grinch (animated). I enjoy them all.

That's what my tree looks like. I don't want a big one.

You have a Charlie Brown Christmas tree?

I bet it looks great next to your leg lamp.

Oh, great. Let them watch cartoons. Who needs that pesky math/history/literature/science stuff anyway?

Don't let those gnomes and their illusions get you down. They're just gnomes and illusions.

Your Duck video didn't work. Undecided

I went to some very small mountain schools which had a very small budget. They would show cheap educational films from the 50's and early 60's and sometimes even from the 40s!! Like this little gem.

I didn't see anything wrong with it until the very end when they start to get a little preachy. Linus? I think recites a bible passage about the angels announcing Jesus birth to the shepherds. Might be a bit too religious to be shown in a school setting although I wasn't offended. So for those who have seen it what do you think? Should it be banned from schools?

It is most appropriate to recite Bible passages in a cartoon. That's where they belong.

I have a Charlie Brown Christmas Tree--it's in storage now though. Wink

I watched this Xmas special as a kid, but now looking at it as an atheist, I think it shows yet another subtle form of pushing religion on children.
