Thumbs up for Irving, Texas
The City Council of Irving, Texas passed a resolution to ban the use of any foreign law in the court system. The bill, while designed to stem the tide of the creation of Sharia Courts, does not mention Islam, Muslims, or Sharia Law, in particular.

Many Muslims in Irving are butt-hurt, over the move which would protect the American system of law based on the Constitution.

Banning foreign law in the American court system?

I'm stunned.

I can't think of any scenario where a US court WOULD use foreign laws.........

Sounds to me like a law passed to fix a problem that doesn't exist..

I'm not up on US law, but I'm pretty sure that's not how the legal system works...

A legal system works only within it's own laws; one cannot go to court in one place and start citing the laws of a different land.

They are spackling over a wall with no real holes.

The people closely associated with the namesake of female canines are suffering from a nondescript form of lunacy.

Courts do need to reference foreign laws
http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volok...-disputes/

If the Irving council did reject "any use of any foreign law" then it is short-sighted and ignorant and will potentially make some cases more difficult.

Out the window goes common law marriage, right?

Give me your argument in the form of a published paper, and then we can start to talk.

This seems to be the epitome of shortsightedness trying to solve a nonexistent problem and creating a whole host of real legal issues as a result. Facepalm Texas.
