Tis the Season of Giving and Charity (Atheists Need Not Apply)
Article located here. Excerpts include...

Quote:
  • A group of Kansas City, Mo., nonbelievers was told their help was not needed after they volunteered to help a local Christian group distribute Thanksgiving meals
  • A $3,000 donation to a Morton Grove, Ill., park, collected by a local atheist group, was returned. Park officials said they did not wish to “become embroiled in a First Amendment dispute.”
  • A group of Spartanburg, S.C., atheists was denied the opportunity to help at a Christian-run soup kitchen. The soup kitchen’s executive director told local press she would resign before accepting the atheists’ help and asked, “Why are they targeting us?”
  • the American Cancer Society, in 2011, turned away $250,000 from the Stiefel Freethought Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to humanist causes.

Atheists and non-believers are often accused of being immoral, uncharitable, selfish, hateful, etc. However in the above linked article several examples would show that at least some organizations (all listed are Christian) refuse assistance...if the source of assistance happens not to believe in God. I have no words for this really. I do not understand the logic, unless the goal is to continue demonizing atheists.

Any theists in the house care to explain their point of view? Can anyone shed some light on this other than these particular religious organizations are assholes?

Diluting the message devalues the product.

It's just a marketing thing.

Well, the product was alleged to be charity. Obviously, that was not the case.

So what? As DLJ said,
Quote:Atheism is not a religion so has no doctrine, attempts no moral authority, does not claim an objective morality etc.

In other words, there is no claim to be without malice, greed, and hate-mongering.

You are welcome to your disgust, contempt, jadedness, and scorn if / when you see it.

I'm surprised the American Cancer Society turned down that donation. I wonder if there's more to that story.

I also wonder if these same groups reject donations from the Catholic Church based on their "problem" among the clergy. Prolly not.

If Jesus died for our sins, why is there still sin? If man was created from dust, why is there still dust? If Americans came from Europe, why are there still Europeans?

So then, in other words: why are these organizations refusing contributions from some regular ass people wanting to help out?

But now I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

Christian "gifts" always come at a price. They'll travel to whatever third world country and pass around rice and tee-shirts (which were probably made in a third world country). But they'll also be passing out bibles and prayers for all the poor, lost souls god failed to bring his ministry too. Same thing at the shelters: Bring your drunk, crazy ass in for a bowl of soup and a cot for the night, 'cause god gave you a defective brain, and you're sure to smile through a nice sermon about all it has to offer you!

"Christians are taking up gods slack! All that resting on the Sabbath causes a bit of a bottleneck, so god brings in his chosen brain-dead to fill the void!"
