To be a woman: Sometimes I think it must suck!
This post is probably going to piss off people, especially anybody close to the feminist camp, but it is how I feel. Or at least me trying to convey how I feel to the best of my abilities.

But damn, I am conflicted about this. I find women physically beautiful, like artwork beautiful. But also, the key things that I find physically beautiful are usually achieved by scraping away the raw creature of the human woman, and sculpting the cultural idea of what a woman "should be".

Here are some things that I absolutely personally LOVE:
-Shaved/waxed body hair.
-long hair (although I find medium length great also...short can be good but it's harder to make it work for me).
-Plucked/waxed/maintained eyebrows
-NO mustaches
-Nice smelling
-I have a like/dislike relationship with makeup. Mostly I dislike makeup in principle if you can tell that somebody is wearing it. But on special occasions the glam can be nice.
-bras (keeping things from sagging)

But here is the thing..I think these things I find beautiful are completely socially constructed. There is no real reason (outside of social acceptance and/or mating display) that a woman should HAVE to do any of these things..but to be a woman in today's culture, I bet many women do feel like they have to do these things in order to be accepted.

It causes me some internal conflict, because I almost feel like women get trapped into "this is how to be a woman in the modern world" instead of being able to do whatever they like. But at the same time I am sooooo happy that these things exist because I love how beautiful I find the result of doing these things.

The thing is, as a guy, I sure as hell WOULD NOT want to have to shave my legs, pluck my brows (although I do pluck my unibrow), or put on makeup. That would suck! And to think that in order to be "normal" you need to do these things? I think it's incredibly unfair to women, but like I said I also effing love it.

So I guess in conclusion, I think it is unreasonable and sucky that women have such a specific public image to maintain, but at the same time I am very grateful for the time and effort that women put into themselves. Keep being beautiful! But you don't have to be..if you don't want... Confused

I think they call this cognitive dissonance right? Tongue haha

Not all women have to shave their legs - some have hairless legs. (I do)

That's likely what started the thing, some women don't have hair on legs and arms. In most cultures women don't shave, period.

I have always held the attitude: "if you don't like me the way I am, you lose out".

Hairless legs or not, I have never much liked men like you. (No offense)

Your preferences are great for porn, you can look at women who happen to turn you on.

They are a lousy basis for any type of real relationship. Everyone gets older, no one looks the same as they age.

Is your attitude a bad thing? Probably depends on your age. If you are at your hormonal peak, you may change as you go and see the real values in people.

After all these years of shaving and plucking and trying not to jab my eyeball with a mascara wand, it's just habit. I really don't think much about it any more.

See here they are, the bruises, some were self-inflicted and some showed up along the way. - JF

I actually don't understand why/how people confuse personal connection on an emotional or intellectual level with physical preference and attraction. They are not the same thing, and all are necessary for a healthy relationship (for me) IMO. And for the record I've seen absolutely gorgeous women in their 60s and 70s (who I personally know have not have any plastic surgery, which I am opposed to).

But that's another topic, I'm not trying to explain how my love life is or how it works. Just how women are viewed in society on this one.Thumbsup

I've also considered that...that it may not bother women once they get used to it. Which I'm also slightly conflicted about. Kind of like how it doesn't bother SOME of the Muslim women who hide their entire bodies from men, you know?

I know that's a different extreme and all, but I'm just thinking out loud.

I don't understand this compulsion people have to just come out of nowhere and fall on their sword.

Eh, he's being honest, trying to examine how he feels about the status of things, and get opinions on it. I may not like his opinion on it completely, but I can respect the effort.

People used to laugh at me when I would say "I want to be a comedian". Well nobody is laughing now!

I dunno. Getting cramps, birthing babies and bleeding every month with no control over it kinda passes the leg shaving and make-up application shittiness. But hey, anytime I wanna grab a boob- well there you go, all negatives cleared.

More like several pins removed from a grenade belt.
Where is Viking by the way, I thought it was him until I noticed the absence of rape justification.
