To our Europeans: Is everything okay over there?
A few minutes ago I watched a video on TheThinkingAtheist Facebook page and saw a video about how radical muslims are taking over Europe. That they are violently attacking secularism over in the European nations. Do you all think it is an actual threat of any kind. What are people over in Europe saying about it? Everyone not just Europeans are welcome to answer but I am highly interested in what they have to say. Please respond. I was aware that this has been going on for a while but I didn't think it was too extreme until just now.

Depends on who your asking. There really are signs of things taking a turn for the worse. I'm sure you have heard about the burka ban in France. For a long time we have had a lot of immigrants coming to Europe from countries where people are, for the most part, Muslims. This has resulted in a new, very weird, Christian counter-culture. I'm saying that it is weird because people don't seem to be becoming more Christian, they just defend the Christian church because they view it as the lesser evil. They might very well be right about that, even though I personally would like to get rid of both of them. Muslims taking over Europe? nah. I don't think so. But it does make for great headlines though. What I see as the problem in my country is that we can't seem to get rid of the few religious people we have left. They have all gotten so mellow and religious-light that no one sees them as a problem anymore.

I want to rip off your superstitions and make passionate sense to you

Overtaking is a large word. It is on the rise and something that need careful scrutiny and follow up. But as far as I am concerned... There are more pedophile priests in Europe then there are extremist Muslims...

"Britain is fucked" would be the simplest answer I can give.

Most europeans are brainwashed into thinking it's a very good idea, and the one's that aren't either keep very quiet about it or suffer the government-approved and encouraged harassment of "bigots and nazis"

The BNP (British National Party) has been given a status much like how communists were treated in the early days of the Nazi party now; if we know you're a member you lose citizenship rights, including NHS, bank accounts, legal right to build a CV/Resume, etc.
Pretty much how communists were treated in America in the 50s also.

The BNP are given that status by the people because they are a hypocritical facist party founded by a neo nazi they never get power because the vast majority of british people have more sense than to allow braindead thugs power. the whole muslims taking over europe is a lot of bs they are in the minority. most of the muslims i know are harderworking nicer far more accepting of my beleifs than many of the christians ive met.

Behold the power of the force!

Thank you all for your comments they are appreciated. Europe gives me hope that the human race is progressing. When I am feeling down about how religious people are around here it makes me feel better knowing that Europe is secular and moving beyond religion. Hopefully the USA can be as secular as Europe one day but I doubt that will happen in my life time.

RE: To our Europeans: Is everything okay over there?
Most of the muslims who come to Europe from, say, Somalia, are fairly moderate, and very shocked when they hear about their relatives' hands and legs being cut off by the Somalian extremist group (it's Al-Shabaab I think[btw, the organization tries to hire young people whose parents are immigrants in the Nordic countries. I saw this one Swedish fella in TV who was beaten with metal bars by the recruiters 'cause he didn't want to join]). I've picked up the notion, that alot of the Somalian immigrants leave their country because they fear the extremist groups, from somewhere, but I have no idea if it's true.

The majority of european muslims are moderates, but I fear that the populistic (maybe a little xenophobic and neo-nazist) parties in Europe and people's prejudice will only make it harder for them to adapt into western society. They group into their own 'areas' and communities and sort of 'exclude' themselfs from the rest of the society. When they feel threatened and exclude themselfs into their own group, their muslim identity grows, and organizations like Al-Shabaab can start harvesting the individuals with extremist potential.
That is just my infering and speculation, I haven't read alot about the subject, so I can be completely wrong. But I think I can say for sure that the current ''islamphobia'', prefudice and hate will only widen the gap between ''us'' and ''them''. How can muslim immigrants ever adapt to western society if we call their children ''second generation immigrants'' although they've lived their whole life in the country?

Correct me when I'm wrong.
Accept me or go to hell.

Here in Hungary there are virtually no Muslims. Or immigrants at all. No one wants to come here, and who is here would like to leave. Of course there are the gypsies who are not immigrants but their presence generates lots of tension. The gypsies are the people for us who are Muslims for the British.

We have Gypsies here too. They get all the socialist benefits but don't have to pay taxes, it's also deemed 'racist' to try to stop them from vandalizing public spaces.

I've felt this way too on plenty of occasions. I'm surrounded by ulta-religious on a daily basis and it's really disheartening. I'm hoping my mood will improve by moving to another state one of these days. Wink The husband is keeping his German citizenship just in case though. Big Grin
