Yeah I know that feeling!

About 3 or 4 years ago one of my uncles killed himself. Totally not the type to do so either, well... we didn't think so.

He had been having a pretty hard time, his wife left him and took his kid with her, not sure why. He wasn't working as much, so there was financial issues. Then one day he drove out to an old logging road and swallowed all the pills he could find and died. He was found like a week later.

When I was younger I really liked him, he was my second favorite uncle. But as things go I moved away and he lived very far away already, so we lost touch. It was surreal. I got a call saying he killed himself and wondering if I was going to go to the funeral.
I felt really guilty, but I had no interest in going. I didn't even know him anymore and I felt it would be too weird. So I didn't go. Kind of douchy but I don't think he cares anyways.

The strangest part was having to talk to family that I had already sort of written off due to a lack of communication. And it's not like you are having happy conversations, it's all weird stunted depressing talks that seem to run on for way too long.

Anyways, good luck dealing with it all. It obviously won't be any fun. But maybe use it as a chance to reacquaint yourself with some long lost relatives. Or do what I did and shirk all of your social responsibilities.

I'm not sure if I want to be active with either side of my family, there is a lot of drama involved with both sides and it's really tolling.

Unfortunately for some of us, that's very true.
