Enhanced interrogation is not, it's not reliable, we're opening ourselves to the same treatment.
Torture me enough and I'll tell you whatever you wanna hear.

Tear, yea it was a smartassed comment aimed at you.

I think my back would benefit from a mild streching.

RE: Torture/Enhanced Interrogation
I think torture is morally wrong, but in an ultimately consequentialist sense. We want to live in a society where we are not tortured, therefore maintaining the standard of zero tolerance for torture is valuable to both ourselves and to the society as a whole. That's without even considering the fact that it isn't effective, so has plenty of red on the ledger and no substantial black.

Give me your argument in the form of a published paper, and then we can start to talk.

The evidence appears to be pretty solid that it doesn't produce reliable information. Does that leave any reason to support it other than revenge?

No. But that alone is a huge (though almost always entirely implicit) motivator with regards to "justice" systems.

An argument you sometimes see claimed (for punitive rather than interrogative purposes) is that it's a deterrant - despite the evidence being that that doesn't work either.

... this is my signature!
