I don't know about balls. It took longer to prep him for the experience, than he lasted undergoing the experience.

Just the fact that he was willing to be tortured to prove that it is, in fact, torture shows balls. No matter how long he lasted. He wasn't trying to prove how much he could resist it, he was trying to prove that it was unbearable to experience.

For God so loved the world that he arranged for everyone to both have free will and to suffer the terrible consequences of making the wrong choice. Kind of a dick move, God.
