The only reason to bend over in that event is to kiss your ass good-bye. Weeping

As Girly Man posted below, that nuclear option does exist. In the '60s, we were taught those "drop drills". There was a poster going around in those days about what to do in case of a nuclear attack. It had a list of things to do, the last of which was, "Bend over and kiss your ass good bye". I'm really concerned these days about what the bellicosity of religious people is going to lead to, especially the latest Muslim/xtian stripe of trouble. When it was "only" arrows and swords, that was bad enough. But nukes? Fuck. Religious fervor needs to be brought to heel by logic, instead of being used to stir the shit, while people stand by and watch it happen.

Having no real info', I lack any opinion. I do think Turkey is playing with fire.

One must wait and see I suppose. The SU 24 is a very old jet, think F111 era and had no fighter escort. This may change if Mig 29's and more modern Russian fighters begin escorting bombers.

We could be looking at a huge shit fight. The trouble is we don't know the facts.

I will call him a liar and a dog here and now.

RE: Total shitshow?
So on the Rachel Maddow show last night, she talked about the fact that the Russians has been attacking Syrian Turkmen rebels in Syria. The Syrian Turkmen are ethnically Turkish and Turkey had warned Russia about their military action against this group. She hypothesized that the shooting down of the Russian plane was in response to Russian attacks on the Syrian Turkmen. What a complex area with so many ethnic groups and so many competing interests. In the end, it is the civilian population that suffers.

Could get interesting, Russia has announced fighter jets will now escort its bombers during air strikes over Syria.

Can you blame us? Name an animal after our country, then make up a holiday where you slaughter and eat it. That's just wrong... Dodgy

To be fair, that's only an English mistake. Plenty of other languages call it after other places they're not from. Eg French, as dinde, as in [bird] from India. Doesn't Turkish even call it that?

And in India, they call it a Peruvian bird, since they got it from the Portuguese, and that's what they called it. Even though no wild turkeys have ever been within a thousand miles of Peru.

Fun bonus fact: the turkeys the original New England colonists ate weren't local wild birds, but domesticated ones from back home.
