There was a stage play in the 1930s, which was made into a movie in the 1940s, called Gaslight, in which the husband tried to convince his wife that she was crazy. One of his techniques was to make the gaslights flicker then deny it when she pointed it out.

I see. Interesting. I feel like I've seen that plot in multiple movies, Hitchcock maybe? Well that particular ploy will never work on me because I'm always gas lit.
