I am not against protests. I myself protest against D.Trump.
I am against shutting down his speech.

But who is shutting down his speeches? My memory is not perfect in the least, but the only thing I remember about one of Her Trumps rallies being shut down was him postponing it a day. Courtesy of Dom, Post 57.

That isn't shutting it down, and he was the one who decided it, and he clearly does not care if there are protesters, given his active encouragement of violence against the inevitable naysayers.

If I am wrong, please correct me.

Wrong again ace.

'un-American' is a fun but nearly useless label mostly used by jingoist, nationalist, bigots, and other xenophobic groups that get gratification and self-worth out of hating other vaguely defined groups of people who are not them. Being 'un-American' can mean whatever you want it to mean, and it can easily embody contradictory meanings. What it means, and it's connotation, depends almost entirely on who is using it and in what context.

To supporters of the religious right in the South, having a public education that doesn't shove Jesus down everyone's throats is considered by them to be 'un-American'; regardless of the fact that such endorsements of religion violates the First Amendment of the Constitution, the highest governing law document in the United States. To the conservative reactionaries of the 1950's, being in support of public welfare programs would label someone as a Communist, and thus very 'un-American'; because somehow socialism wasn't American, and everybody forgot about The New Deal whenever it was politically convenient to do so.

'un-American' is about as useless of a label as they come, as it tells you nothing without context; and if you have the context, the label is entirely unnecessary.

There were too many protestors inside. He wouldn't be able to speak. They wouldn't let him.
Trump is a bully and many of his supporters are bullies. He was on the left most of his life. So, I am not surprised.

Probably not. But Hitler and Nazi party didn't won thanks to the elections but rather thanks to elites which thought that controlling person such as Hitler would be easy.

Nazis best result was 43.9% of votes in elections that hardly could be called free [Richard Evans, The Coming of the Third Reich, s. 346 of Polish edition].

It does not need to be majority as European history shows. What is needed is silence of majority and elites being willing to cooperate.

I doubt though something like that will happen. Trump isn't Hitler and USA isn't Weimar Republic* whose legitimacy was questioned since the beginning of it's existence.

Right, Hitler was made Chancellor by the established political elite of the republic playing a very dangerous game of king-maker.

They lost. We all lost.

I don't think that's going to happen with someone as seemingly anti-establishment as Trump.

Agreed. The Republic had the stigma of the Versailles Treaty (that ended WWI and saddled Germany with reparations to the victors that subsequently destroyed it's economy) always hanging around it's neck like a noose.

Hitler too was anti-establishment if I recall correctly, or rather he was anything to anyone as his speeches were tailored to audience. He even joined with Bavarian revolution of 1918/1919, though this was supposed to be opportunistic move rather than genuine one [Volker Ullrich, Hitler: Volume I: Ascent 1889-1939, s. 110 of Polish edition].

Republic has all kind of stigmas of which Treaty was only one. People were saying that Republic wasn't monarchy, it was too liberal, leaning too much to the left, it didn't provided stability, etc. In the end Germans just didn't believed in Republic.

Evans in his The Coming of the Third Reich makes a good summary of Republic faults or "faults".
