RE: Trump bans transgender from military
Question for Lord Dark Helmet:

Do you believe Trump made this decision because he consulted with military experts he trusted and came to the conclusion that it was legitimately and truly not a good thing for the military to have trans people in it? You can even leave out "...he consulted with military experts he trusted and..." if you want. Not meant as a snarky trick question, I really want to know what you think he was thinking, even if it was, as is being strongly suggested, that this was a purely domestic political calculation.

Agreed and this is very disturbing. It's a given that there should be civilian control over the military, check. But that comes with what one would think would be obvious qualifications- that the prez consult with those who understand the nuts and bolts, where the rubber meets the road. It's not hard to imagine, say, Eisenhower, who kinda knew stuff about this stuff, meeting with the top brass and working military things out, in fact it's hard to imagine even Eisenhower NOT meeting with his brass before making big military decisions. With Trump, you have to suspend your belief to imagine him either talking to someone who might have military insight or taking more than five seconds to make his decision. Now the entire military is like, what the hell...? And so far this is just tweets, it isn't in the form of any kind of order or law, he could change his mind tomorrow if someone just talks to him and tells him he has a winning smile and a big penis.

What's even worse, is the generals were having meetings at the Pentagon this AM (per Andrea Mitchell, NBC), talking about troops in Afghanistan, Syria, and a few other big things things, and into that they, with NO NOTICE, they start getting tweets by the insane man in the White House.

I read that and started laughing, then scolded myself: "WHY THE FUCK AM I LAUGHING?"

That's the problem, and that's why he needs to go. He's raving loony insane. Pence may be religiously nuts but... I can't honestly believe there's any solid argument that Trump should stay. Unless you guys want to turn the Oval office into a padded cell with a fox news feed and a twitter account link.

Maybe we could activate the 25th amendment and just not tell him...? Put him in a room with a twitter account unconnected to the internet and just let him bang away on the keyboard...?

"Guess what Mr. Trump ? We've arranged for you to be in the newest bestest golf tournament in the universe. It may go on for weeks, but we know you are up to this. You are the best golder in the world. All the best celebs will be there. Pence will watch things for you here, OK. The chopper is waiting."
