Americans tend to be phobic about communism (a legacy of the Cold War), and to equate any sort of socialism with communism -- maybe because they aren't capable of making fine distinctions. Everything has to be black or white, and socialism = communism = black. Or something like that.

That's scary I kinda thought they just believed that social healthcare was inferior to private healthcare, (which is pure B.S. BTW ) more likely equivalent in my experience. Also I kinda like the thought that a down and out will receive the same point of care delivery as a lord or lady, we make less division of worth than the so called land of the free Yes

There is some of that as well, but even if private healthcare is better (debatable), it's gotten so expensive that if you don't have insurance, you're screwed. That was the motivation behind ACA ("Obamacare"), but it has been implemented imperfectly, to say the least. And those who have more than enough deeply resent having to pay anything at all (in the form of higher taxes) to help those less fortunate. That's the real phobia -- anything's better than higher taxes, even if the higher taxes result in lower out-of-pocket costs and better service for everyone. Americans (especially rich Americans) really hate taxes.

People who hate taxes are not thinking clearly; they are certainly not thinking critically.

I hate tax dollars being wasted or stolen, but tax dollars spent well accomplish what we can't accomplish individually.

Why can't Chas and I live down the street from each other?

This ACA thing is blowing up all over the news. Top story on CNN, FOX, MSNBC and our local news. Republicans are already running attack ads in states where they have close senate races and the rising ACA costs. I guess they figure if they can't beat Hillary, they'll keep the senate by pinning obamacare to the democrats down ballot.

Rather than an avatar of Hillary in garters, can the admins simply change his username to Lord Purple Helmet?

Where is LDH when his favorite grasping-at-his-last-straw poll goes for Clinton?

http://www.investors.com/politics/ibd-ti...tion-poll/

Guess he needs to cling to the ACA news, which most knew was coming and most know the subsidies will cover the increase for those getting subsidies.

Congrats, LDH, you are officially down to your last gasp. Make it a good one.
