Planned parenthood handles vasectomy's??? Had no idea.

http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-center

It's not listed specifically, but they do offer them, and usually at very affordable rates scaled to your income.

Logisch - you might get questioned about it being single sans kiddos (at least, that's the impression I have about you?), but you should still be able to find one to do the procedure.

And colourcraze, there are gyns that will give you a hysterectomy (although I'm not sure why you wouldn't want a tubal? Must be more to the story...not my business)

When we went, the doc said "you have only one kid? You don't want anymore? Ok"

Full disclosure:
I have so much guilt over this. It's probably the one thing I feel most guilty about in my life. And he blames me for it, despite me giving him plenty of opportunities to back out.

Yes it can be reversed...but I saw what was snipped and stapled and...I dunno...don't bank on things being reversed in the event you change your mind.

Hopefully. Don't want'em. Had a long time to think about it.

Can't semen be frozen and stored in a sperm bank to be thawed out at a later date? Or is that something Hollywood made up?

Yes, that's really a thing. Although I do believe there is a charge to "rent space" to keep it for later.

RE: Trying to get a vasectomy
I tried getting one in the service at the age of 19.

I knew then that I didn't want kids.

That was close to 35 years ago -- and guess what??? I still don't want kids.

They scheduled me to see a doctor -- a psychiatrist.

I was fucking PISSED.....

(23-04-2015 04:18 PM)MrKrispy601 Wrote:  So me and my wife have discussed the matter of me getting a vasectomy. With her having a condition which makes it highly likely that she will have a miscarriage if she did get pregnant along with our views we feel it's best we don't have kids. Now we both are young(23 and 24) so we understand that we might change our minds later in life but we both would rather adopt seeing as that's better for the whole of society. We see no point in putting another mouth to feed on this earth when there are plenty of kids who need parents.

So today I go to my doctor to get referred to a urologist to get scheduled for the procedure and although I was expecting the whole "your only 20 something" argument I wasn't expecting the extra stuff. So we sit down he goes through the normal questions. Are you married, have any kids, and your age. When I tell him that we don't have any he gives me a look. I go on to explain my wife's condition which I figured is a damn good reason for this. I'd rather not procreate and not sacrifice my wife's health. He then goes on to say " Well you know 60% of military marriages don't work right? Who's to say you won't end up someone different who can safely have kids?" Blink WTF?!? Why is that even relevant?

So I end up getting the ok finally but there is a strong chance when I call tomorrow to schedule with urology they'll turn me away when they here my age and how I have no kids. I seriously hate this. Why is it that most of our society feel like we HAVE to procreate? I mean that whole for the good of the species argument is total bullshit. We are so fucking overpopulated its a joke. But for some reason some people still look down on people who don't want to have kids because we actually give a shit about overpopulation. And why is it that doctors turn away patients who actually have a legit reason no matter the age? I mean it's not like I can blame the doctor if I change my mind later. That's what waivers are for right?

I'm just hoping that the urologist understand that I have a legit reason and concern for my wife's health. I've had a few family members suffer a miscarriage and it's something you never really get over fully. I'd never want to put her through that. And of course she could get her tubes tied but that leads to a host of problems for women. It just seems less of a toll on me to have a vasectomy that have her have to deal with even more health problems than she currently has.

This may be too late to say anything, but I think you have every right to make this decision. My fiancé and I made the same choice--not to have our own children--because of genetic disorders being passed down. It's your right to choose this path. It's a bizarre one at times, and people will always have the innate expectation or assumption that you want to have children--that's simply reflexive. Fighting biology grinds against some people, but that's because they can't see your view point or it has never occurred to them before that it was a valid option. I hope you make the decision that is right for you and your wife--what is YOUR choice, despite the outflowing of people opinions. It's a very complicated question to present to yourself and it has a lot of facets--make sure you personally have explored the depth of emotions that will be involved in this process of not passing on your genetics.

It seems to be pretty rare to find someone who at 19 has their mind made up on a particular matter, 100%. Minds can and do change, which is what most doctors at least ask the patients to ponder on. If that doctor still won't do it, get another opinion. If you're deadset on having a vasectomy, someone will do it.

I, on the other hand, have two kids already and are planning to have a third. After said third baby is born, I'm going for the old snip-snip. I've done my part to pass on my DNA. Even if my wife and I separated, I highly doubt I'd want anymore kids still.

I don't see any reason to "pass on the dna".

It's an outdated, unneeded, and unwanted mindset in a world with 8 BILLION people.

And it really pissed me off for some prick with a medical degree to insist that I was illogical about it....

Yeah I mean, if they're telling you outright you're being stupid/illogical for getting one. That's on them. If they're suggesting to give it a little more thought, that's another thing. At that point, I would go to another specialist.

The world can handle more educated people. If I can pass on my intelligence, concepts, and other features via my DNA/bloodline/what have you, then that can help. Have to be able to outbreed stupid. Tongue

It annoyed me to no end - that this bozo doctor pronounced that "I didn't know what I wanted enough to make a decision " ----

BUT...

SOMEHOW ....

I knew enough of what I wanted to join the service - and qualify to carry a weapon --- and be trusted enough to carry that weapon on shipboard boardings....

But, my sperm??? Nooooooo... Not qualified -- somehow.....
