Y'know, I did catch a lot of ribbing from family Army and Marine vets for joining the Air Force ... but there was nothing but love from the pounders when I met with them, mostly. They knew the score -- teamwork.

Those who join the military in general, and particularly combat arms, are competitive by nature. We have to be. And in the absence of an actual enemy, we substitute each other.

It is funny in a way. All the shit talking we do in the military. And of course when the original story pegged them as marines, it only added to the standard narrative. But nope, an air force e-3 and a national guard e-4. I'm sure anyone with a similar mindset would have done the same thing, and whoever happened to be there is a matter of chance. At any rate, I'm sure the rivalry will continue regardless.

Two of the latest posts on the various vet groups lol:

And of course no respect for us cav scouts.

Referencing the post I made above -- when I enlisted in the AF, my step-father, a Vietnam vet who did LRRPs in 65-66, said, "D, I'm glad you joined the Air Force ... but why didn't you join the military?"

And my brother-in-law (Army, Vietnam, 72-73) says, "D, you did right, you see, the Navy bombards it, the Marines assault it, the Army secures it ... and the Air Force builds the NCO club." Laugh out loadLaugh out load

Sho 'nuff. And it's good-natured, which is why it never bugs me. When push comes to shove, the oath, and the experience of basic training, kinda ties us all together.

The gobshite is claiming he's not a terrorist. Says he found the guns in a park in Brussels and only intended to rob the people on the train. He was then going to use the gun to shoot out the window, jump out and make good his escape. Mmmm......... I don't think so.

A bunch of the fuselage is taken up with the gun that spits those things, and ammo carriage. It's an amazing sight.

A slightly more inclusive picture (not just the Americans).
