Folks...Carlo is not exaggerating one bit. I have talked to a bunch of these people and it's the saddest thing I have ever seen. Weeping These are the people that form the base of the Tea Party.
I work with one, it's a daily topic of conversation. Well, I don't say much, but I get my fill of Fox news from him without having to watch TV. Sadcryface

Here's another Moron Advocate of Gun Control who did more damage to Gun Rights than any other President.

No, there is quite a range of people, including first-time gun owners. I know many people who do not fit your stereotypical description.
True, there are all types of people who buy guns and ammo.

But the type I described seems to be the majority.

When I lived in Tulsa (this was early 2009) I went to a gun show to buy an SKS (Oddly enough I had to do a standard NICS check for the rifle so I really don't understand the whole 'gun show loophole' thing but that's another story). Anyways when I was leaving some shitty looking redneck pulls up in an SUV and two of his buddies come out with crates of ammunition in a wheelbarrow (they must have bought at least 30,000 rounds), load it into an the SUV and drive off. The rest of the firearms vendors in there were moving merch like gangbusters and there
was a lot of idle chit chat about the prospects of taking that coon in the White House and that bitch Nancy Pelosi and burning them at the stake. And you could pick up plenty of Nazi memorabilia from some shady shaven headed dudes on your way out.

I also distinctly remember a gunshop in Hunstville, AL which was always REALLY busy year round. I'd estimate the owner of that hole did $250,000 in firearms sales every week! And yes, virtually ALL the clientele were - you guessed it - scared, stupid white people.

Next time you have to deal with one of these shitasses railing on about gun control, goad them on with the following.

"Well you have to confiscate guns. It makes it easier for the roving gangs of negroes to rape you."

"IN THRUST WE TRUST"

"We were conservative Jews and that meant we obeyed God's Commandments until His rules became a royal pain in the ass."

I was hoping for a different conversation, but whatever, it's all good. Phaedrus, you are awesome as ussual, but wrong on a couple of things. It's still common to have a 1, or 2 shot shotgun. Breakdown shotguns aren't as popular as they once were, but I'd still call them common. This isn't common, but I one even saw a breakdown three shot shotgun/rifle combo. Weird, but cool. Also, I'd say it is common for guns to last a century. You can find many examples of guns lasting several centuries, but I've shot plenty that are over the century mark, I even own one that still shoots like a champ, but it'll wear out your shoulder real quick. Another thing is 30 round .22's are pretty common, both in the pistol, and rifle varieties. Personally, I'd like to own the Kel-tec PMR-30 which fires the .22 magnum, and holds 30 rounds. That's all.

RE: US Politics Cause Massive Gun and Ammo Shortage.
Yeah, break actions are still out there, but the concept of magazines doesn't really apply to them. Tongue I don't really have a dedicated plinker, my .22s are target guns, so I was unaware of 30-round .22s. That's neat, I might pick one up if prices and laws ever get back to normal... And yeah, guns can last centuries, but a lot don't. If they see regular use or if they're neglected they'll wear out in 50 years or so. Most century-plus guns are milsurps that were used for 5-10 years, preserved in cosmoline, and usually rebuilt at some point. A century is optimistic for most guns. But fifty years is a reasonable expectation as far as lifespan is concerned.

E 2 = (mc 2)2 + (pc )2
614C → 714N + e + ̅νe
2 K(s) + 2 H2O(l) → 2 KOH(aq) + H2 (g) + 196 kJ/mol
It works, bitches.

Finding it hard to source ammunition?

I suppose that's one way of getting rid of guns without actually getting rid of them.

For no matter how much I use these symbols, to describe symptoms of my existence.
You are your own emphasis.
So I say nothing.

RE: US Politics Cause Massive Gun and Ammo Shortage.
I grew up in a 'communist' dictatorship. We had absolutely no access to guns and/or ammunition. Only the police and the military had them. Not even the criminals (with very very few exceptions).

I used to dream about freedom in the West. My dreams included freedom to read Huxley, Solženicyn, LeCarre, watch Doctor Zhivago, travel anywhere I wanted to (other than Cuba) see Niagara Falls, tell a political joke (without looking around first), argue about philosophy, history, politics (without watching my words), to find out if the rumour about a Hitler-Stalin pact was actually true, and go to a church (without risking getting it on my file) if I wanted to (I never did).

In all these dreams I NEVER dreamt about owning a gun and ammunition.

I guess you had to be born here for that obsession! Big Grin

The NRA is a sideshow to distract people from the actual gun industry. It makes insane claims to draw media and public attention to them and away from the men behind the curtain. As far as scare tactic, most of the gun hoarding anti-government types dont really need much proding and right wing radio is doing far far more than the NRA has ever done in that regard.

Yeah, I could see how the NRA claiming certain people want to ban guns is pretty ridiculous, cause then those said people propose gun bans to scare people even more.
