Uh-Oh - You Can Bet Congress Will Shit Itself
throwing money at this problem.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/10/politics/u...index.html

Quote:Nearly two-thirds of the US Navy's F/A 18 strike fighter jets are currently unable to fly, grounded due to repair delays or because they are awaiting spare parts.
With more than half of all Navy aircraft out of service and no budget agreement in place to increase defense spending levels, the top brass says its usable planes are being pushed to the limit.

Which means the we'll hear the battle cry of the military loud and clear.

Quote:Today, jets are being stretched to fly between 8,000 and 9,000 hours to fulfill mission expectations as a result of fewer operational aircraft, budget restrictions and delays to the fifth-generation F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.

Perhaps if we minded our own fucking business we wouldn't have so many "mission expectations?"

Complex, especially supersonic, aircraft get significantly more expensive to maintain as they age. The stress of years of G-loading on the frame, the vibrations, etc., all conspire to make the hundreds of thousands of parts on each plane subject to failure, which can be catastrophic in flight. That's in peacetime... it gets much worse if you spend a couple of decades (since the start of the '91 Iraq war, the USAF has been in nonstop combat over there) "cranking and banking", dropping bombs, and taking damage from gunfire.

The F-35 took way too long to get here, due to cost overruns and development problems, so now we have a very "long in the tooth" Air Force, except for the F-22s which don't really have a major role in this type of conflict (they're Air Superiority fighters, designed to kill enemy fighters/bombers, resources of which ISIS appears to be a tad short). Many of our current supersonic fighters barely fly supersonically without coming apart! According to USAF General T. Michael Moseley:

"The F-15s and F-16s were designed and built in the late '60s and '70s. Some of them were produced up until the early '80s. But they've led a pretty hard life of 17 years of combat. So you have to replace them with something, because we were continuing to restrict the airplanes. In the F-15 case, we've got the airplane restricted to 1.5 Mach. It was designed to be a 2.5 Mach airplane. We've got it limited on maneuvering restrictions because we've had tail cracks, fuselage cracks, cracks in the wings."

In 20/20 hindsight, we'd have been better-off just building new, technologically upgraded versions of these aircraft. But the fact is that unless we spend a lot on new planes, like it or not, we'll have to spend just as much on maintaining these older airframes that can't even do what they did when built almost 40 years ago.

Whether or not we should be doing military adventurism is an entirely other conversation... but as long as we do maintain an overseas presence, and make promises to allies like Japan and Taiwan, for instance, we're going to need the planes to keep those promises.

I have never understood the smaller government argument.

Here, let me just reach right inside your vagina there.

While I agree that we spend more money on defense than we can afford the graphic in the OP is a good example of alternative facts.

The federal government spends about 20% more on healthcare than they do on defense. That doesn't include whatever the percentage of the 8% of the federal budget that goes towards healthcare for federal retires and veterans in the FEHB and Tricare programs.

So the first graphic is total bullshit fabricated by The Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) apparently. Their MO?

• Marxist-Leninist (Communist) antiwar group that calls for "revolution" in the United States,
• Operates in tandem with the anti-Semitic International ANSWER organisation,
• Expressly supports anti-Israel and anti-American terrorism.

(ANSWER also allegedly supports terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah and Hamas.)

I found this article to be informative.

I still stand by my argument of people who argue for smaller government while trying to pass laws that reach directly into bedrooms and vaginas.
