Um, hello.
Hi. I'm 30 years old. Fully deconverted from fundamental, evangelical Christianity, with an extra flavouring of young earth creationist, within the last year or so. (I know, shocking I ever had a moment where I acknowledged there might be a flaw in my beliefs).

I began questioning God in general before I questioned creationism, but the creationism story is more amusing in my opinion. I sat down one day with a couple of video series from some prominent creationism-fighters, you may have heard of them, AronRa and Thunderf00t. I had avoided religion-based videos on the internet, particularly those of opposing view points, and decided I'd give it a look to see how flawed the "evolutionist" argument had gotten over the years. Within the first two videos of TF's "laugh at creationists" series I was fully deconverted from YEC. Upon completing that series and AronRa's "foundational falsehoods..." series, I was more than capable of answering every argument I'd ever used in my life for creationism.

Slowly, and through several long stories that aren't very good, I lost faith in the idea of a personal god and accepted the possibility of a god that started everything and left it at that. After I finally learned what that was called, I assumed the title of Deist for about two weeks. Then I just said to myself, this is silly, accepting the possibility is not the same thing as believing. I don't believe. I'm an atheist.

There are more stories I have involving a wife who is still religious and three kids, but that is an entirely different story that is covered in another post.

Basically, I just want to say hi now and I look forward to giving and receiving support to others in similar situations as mine as well as have a good time here.

Welcome. If you have a sense of humor and the ability to laugh at yourself, you'll have a great time here.

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.
