No Peebothuhul, I do not think you have missed something. I just rephrased my question to make it less ambiguous.

Important in regards to achieving what?

A happy life? Financial success? A successful career in science?

"Not necessarily" to the first two, "More so" for the third.

Beliefs/thoughts/views/perceptions aren't truth. Those are subjective and truth is not.

I am not accountable to any God. I am accountable to myself - and not because I think I am God as some theists would try to assert - but because, no matter what actions I take, thoughts I think, or words I utter, I have to be able to live with myself.

RE: Veritas?
I am wary of anybody who claims to have "truth". Very few people I respect say anything profound beginning with the statement "I know this to be true". In general, the term truth, or rather its philosophical definition, in the beginning point of poor arguments, or the brandishing word used by some imperial or theological authority to oppress peoples or suppress opposition.

In fact, I cannot imagine how it is even possible to have an enlightening conversation with someone beginning with the question "what is truth". Hope to be proven wrong, but given the track record, not seeing it as likely.

Yes, but veritas is also feminine.

Why truth would be big is, indeed, a bit of a head-scratcher.

So there's that.

I've never seen a female truth, by the way. Shouldn't concepts be neuter?

Grammatical gender doesn't work like that.
(it'd be way too simple...)
No

Veritas is a feminine third declension noun in Latin (as inherited by eg French vérité). As to why any given word is masculine/feminine/neuter... who the hell knows.
