Very bad news for Republicans (but great news for everyone else)
http://money.cnn.com/2013/07/17/news/eco...?hpt=hp_t2

Remember The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010, better known as Obamacare? The one that the GOP fought tooth and nail against, calling it 'socialism' and 'death panels'? The one that Republicans tried some 30 times to have repealed?

Well it turns out that Obamacare is saving New York residents some 50% on their insurance costs. It appears that Obamacare works and forces insurance companies to stop gouging the shit out of their customers!

This is really gonna hurt them going into 2014.

My agent said be ready for a large increase next year. Many people saying their employers are already implementing lower work hours for part time, covering the difference with more bodies.

I doubt it will be so dramatic when actually implemented but it would be great if it is.

Glad to see some numbers applied to this instead of the vagaries I keep hearing.

Still don't want to be forced by the federal government to buy a private product from a private company.

Being principled is ridiculous in light of how many lives this plan is saving.

This plan isn't saving any lives. Everyone who has access to health care now had it before. They just don't get a bill for it now, some pay more, some pay less, and everyone who doesn't qualify for it free is soon going to be forced to buy insurance. I don't have insurance because I don't want to pay for it. I don't get sick and if I did I would either not go to the doctor or bite the bullet and pay uninsured prices. I'm being forced to buy insurance largely in part because a bunch of fat lazy asses don't want to put down the cigarettes and McDonald's.

Trouble is it's WAY more complicated than that. You have the right to access care in any ER in the country if something unfortunate happens to you, as more than likely some day it will. They HAVE to provide, by law any care you need, including millions of dollars of professional and technical care. Even if you are brain dead, they can't turn off your machines. Just because you workout does not mean you are immune to most if not all illnesses. Whether you think you are invincible, or not is irrelevant. With rights come responsibilities. The taxpayers are on the hook for billions of dollars of free care accessed as a right, by all ages, (or they get their pants sued off) by people who think they are immune, just like you do. If you're dying, you will access the care. You know it.

My son and his girlfriend have not been able to find jobs yet that offer insurance. Nor can they afford to buy there own. And I'm sure they will not have the money to pay the fine that they will owe for not having insurance. What will happen after that. Put them in jail. I work in health insurance, I see nothing good coming from this in the long run.
