In principle I find banning detestable and have been overwhelmingly opposed to it in the past. Hell in principle I'm against the fucking rules in general. So why do I feel different about this one? Because it felt more like a mercy killing to me than a punishment. Buddy Christ's approach was expedient if ill-considered. The removal of this particular malignancy felt medically necessary to me, primarily because the kid appeared incapable of even realizing let alone appreciating the havoc he was causing. It's one thing to intentionally cause mayhem for the entertainment value and well, for the sake of mayhem. That shit can be throttled back when it's obviously outta control. This kid's engine warning light was burnt out. Not his fault, but that don't really matter. Could the situation have been handled better? What situation couldn't be in hindsight. But some of the suggested solutions would've just resulted in new precedent being set. It is what it is.

No. Mods don't need to be in position because of a popularity contest. They need to be appointed based on known ability and trust.

That would make things worse. I think it would become clique-ish, and everyone would end up more pissed off. Although everyone here was a mod when I first joined, I'm sure they were all picked for good reason. Any issues that anyone has with any of the moderators should be dealt with in private with those moderators.

Many of us come here to get away from all of the drama and shit in our real lives, we don't want to see it contaminating the boards.

It shouldn't be a popularity contest. You'll end up having to either reprimand your friends (if they deserve it), or if you don't, people will revolt and stop coming and the forum dies.

You need the mods to be dicks when that's what the situation calls for, and not turn on them and attack them.

If you are a moderator, expect people to hate on you. That's what it entails. I moderated for several years on a Narnia fan forum, back when I was religious (narniaweb.com username master oliver if you want to check up. I still retain mod powers as an emeritus, but I pretty much never go there anymore), and it isn't all fun and games. You see the ugly side of things, even on a religious forum. People posting porn (nothing wrong with porn, it just doesn't belong on a forum that isn't for porn) or spam, people whining about so and so. I got burnt out, and I see people here getting burnt out.

A thing we had on the forum I modded on, was a sidebar chat that only the mods could access. If you had a problem that needed dealing with, you got the approval of at least one other mod and then you dealt with it. I would suggest that here as well for small things. For bigger things the mod can bring it to an admin, and the admin can deal.

So at what point will the staff go, "Oh, we have just recently lost Stark, Anjele, and HoC... maybe we are doing something wrong..."

I can tell you right now that nothing the team did caused Stark to leave... nor did the FZU thing.

Stark had personal and legit reasons to step down/take a break.

Perhaps I should reword my statement to more appropriately fit the situation, "Oh, we have just recently lost Stark, Anjele, and HoC... maybe we aren't doing something right..."

I am sure his timely decision to leave had absolutely nothing to do with the influx of fuckers you people seem absolutely incapable of dealing with.

RE: Vote of No Confidence
Well, there seems to be some extenuating circumstances in Starks case. Erxomai said that Stark was going to step down some time ago, but stuck around. It's not certain that he is gone for good, plus he said he would be lurking.

Anjele, is a great member, but she is also not really gone for good. She just posted at least once today. I think it sucks that her and Stark have diminished their presence on the boards, but if that's what they need, then that's what they need. (Hope you both come back btw, don't let the trolls and haters chase you away from the good parts of the forum.)

As for HoC, we'll never be rid of that bastard. Tongue He's tough, and needed to vent. Plus nobody understands the subtle and intricate craziness of HoC's mind better than us heathens.

Lastly, I'm not saying there isn't room for improvement, but if they say they have some irons in the fire, then I believe them. Perhaps with a small nudge towards, getting those irons hammered out before this goes much further. Smile

RE: Vote of No Confidence
Room for improvement? The forum team has done nothing but ignore the constant growth of cancerous tumors, doing nothing as it spreads and turns us all on one another. Did they think they could run an anarchy for ever? Did they think, with the increasing popularity of the forum, that they could maintain a relatively lawless community? Nothing displays internet virginity more than that pipe dream. So, room for improvement? Fuck yeah, there is a boundless room for improvement.

RE: Vote of No Confidence
People need a break from shit now and then. Though some of you may not recall, Stark has stepped out before... hell, I've stepped out, myself. Sticking around or taking a break is up to each individual at any given time. Commitment is an individual thing and is to be respected as such.

The forum is simply going through some shifting dynamics at the moment. There are no rule books - we have to make this shit up as we go. The best laid plans are illusory.
Seriously, do not tell me you fuckers want a Bible.

Life is indefinite.
