WHY is this story even shocking? Deuteronomy 21:18-21
I dont get it. NOT at all. Not of the death of this poor innocent child, but at why this is even a news story. We live in a christian nation, right? All these parents were doing was following Deuteronomy 21:18-21. To ALL the christians out there they believe in the words of the bible, there should be a unified support for these parents! Bill O'Reilly should take to the airwaves proclaiming what these parents did was scriptural and to even think they were wrong would be yet another attack during this war on xmas. Preachers this sunday should stand at the pulpit THIS sunday and use this as a shining example of Godly Parents following gods exact wishes as it was written!

Police in Las Vegas allege that a 7-year-old boy was beaten to death by his parents after failing to read the Bible or do his homework.
Roderick "RJ" Arrington Jr., was admitted to an area hospital on Nov. 29 because he was unresponsive, according to the Las Vegas Sun. Personnel there called officers to the scene after they observed severe bruising and brain swelling, according to a police report. The boy died the following afternoon.

Well, in all fairness, those verses aren't talking about children.

Yea! In all fairness just beat them when they turn 18. Was that the legal adulthood age when the Bible was written?

Unless you've got some insight into why the translation legitimately means adult offspring, then you're just spouting bullshit. The term "son" doesn't indicate of any particular age and would include this instance unless specifically noted otherwise by the original translation and context.

Better without God, and happier too.

Word that's used in the verses here. It literally means "son".

Word for child/children here. It literally means "children" or "child". It serves no reason that the author would say "son" and not "child" if he was talking about children. Also, keeping in the context, the verses call the son a glutton and a drunkard. This is obviously alluding to an older man.
