RE: Wanna have some fun with a Christian site?
Thanks BB.

So, an example of Poe's Law would come from the Kansas Board of Education Evolution hearings, when member Connie Morris sent a taxpayer-funded newsletter to constituents calling evolution an "age-old fairy tale" that was defended with "anti-God contempt and arrogance." Describing herself as a Christian who believes in a literal interpretation of Genesis, Morris wrote that evolution was "biologically, genetically, mathematically, chemically, metaphysically and etc. wildly and utterly impossible."

Her fundamentalism is indistinguishable from the parody of just such a creationist.

It's just "nit-pickyness" on my part, but I think the opposite is more in keeping with Poe's Law...the parody is indistguishable from the reality. In your example, we wish she was a parody, but sadly she's not. Smile

It was just a fucking apple man, we're sorry okay? Please stop the madness Laugh out load

Mayberry's Law: To be a creationist is ipso facto to be a parody.

Quote: It was impolite to wonder why our parents had sent us all to college, and why
generations of immigrants had sweated and bled so that their children could be
educated, if not so that one day we would feel confident enough to look at a
museum full of dinosaurs rigged to run six furlongs at Aqueduct and make not
one unreasonable point that it was batshit crazy, and that anyone who believed
this righteous hooey should be kept away from sharp objects and their own
money.

Chas's Corollary: It is virtually impossible to parody religious fundamentalism.

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.

And yet that doesn't stop us from trying. The simple pleasures in life, mocking the religiously handicapped.

RE: Wanna have some fun with a Christian site?
This seems like a social experiment on human nature. We, the country of Atheon, strengthen our armies (beliefs) and prepare for any attack (fundamentalist drive-by posts). But after a few pathetic siege attempts by the Parture Isles and the nomadic Mystic Byrd tribesmen, we become bored and restless with our idle preparations. So we decide to invade the neighboring country of Theopolese, even though they have never provoked us. Of course, our military might decimates them and we decide to continue this conquest until we have created a reputation of "confrontational angry bullies."

Please brothers, let us consider peaceful methods. Restrict yourselves to a single inquisitive diplomat, lest we start a chain reaction of violence.

As to the impossibility of satirizing a fundamentalist, Edward Current has been doing just that for a decade, even putting THIS IS SATIRE in his descriptions... and still the majority of people don't recognize it. You can't make fun of a crazy person by pretending to be a crazy person.

Quote: Tyrion Lannister: The Lord of Light wants his enemies burned. The Drowned God wants them drowned. Why are all the gods such vicious cunts? Where is the god of tits and wine?
Varys: In the Summer Isles, they worship a fertility goddess with sixteen teats.
Tyrion Lannister: We should sail there immediately.
