Watched something I shouldnt have
Alright, last week my friend suggested I checked out a video on the Internet, and being the idiot that I am... I went ahead and watched it. It wasn't anything pornographic, just one of those gore videos.

Its the most brutal, cold video I have ever seen, and ever since I saw it its on my mind a lot and I'm quite upset about it. It wasn't the gore that bothered me, it was the fact that people can do this sort of stuff to another human being.

My view of the world and the people in it has been permanently changed. I'm now paranoid when I'm walking around outside. Yeah I know, theres an equal chance of something happening to me whether I watch a video or not...but this has really got to me.

I'm no going to say what the video is because I don't want anyone else to watch it.

I just wanted to ask, have you ever come across something that has impacted you like this and how did you deal with it?

I haven't come across anything that would impact me like that, especially not videos, i've seen gore videos before but I guess I must be desensitized to them. It would have to be something to happen in real life, in front of me, to get a reaction like yours.

Same as Bad Wolf, it doesn't really affect me, or atleast not much. And I've seen execution vids, a german gentleman getting fucked to death by a horse, and I've seen Boku No Pico alongside a friend on a dare. I regret watching the last one the most... eating ice cream will never be the same again.

Wow! Sorry to hear that.

In a way, I think it's a good thing that you're still affected. Better that than being desensitised to everything you see.

I was raised on Tom and Jerry so I know that everyone gets resurrected later... probably a bad way of looking at the world.

I'm guessing it was some ISIS scare tactics you endured... that's some heavy shit right there... very hard to stomach.

No it wasn't the ISIS stuff lol.

Apparently this video has been around a few years. Like I said, the gore factor doesn't impact me at all. I used to watch all the old ogrish stuff back in the day and not bat an eyelid, I'm no tough guy lol.. Blood and guts doesn't bother me... Its the coldness of the people doing it and even laughing about it afterwards.

I suppose this ia where religion acts as a comfort blanket for people... One they can pull over their heads and blame it on demons. I on the other hand, have to accept the reality that there are people capable of this kind of barbarity.

You have heard the old saying, you can't unwatch somethin so becareful what you click. Sounds like you watched two guys and a hammer or something similar. Since I am a criminal justice major we discuss crime a lot and someone brought up that video for example in class. Foolishly I went home and searched for and watched, this was years ago and the video is permanently etched into my brain, it was so horrifyingly sadistic it made me sick, my outlook on fellow human beings has never been the same thereafter. This is the reason I avoid watching horror movies, if I wanted to watch horror I would watch the news. Only time and surrounding yourself in positivity will make it fade in my opinion

RE: Watched something I shouldnt have
I don't seek out horrifying videos as I have learned that one can never un-watch them.
They affect me almost as strongly as the few horrifying things I have witnessed in real life.

The few videos that I have seen that depict wanton cruelty or sadism have affected me. I am so disgusted and horrified by that behavior,
that if I happened upon someone torturing something helpless - human or animal - I would be hard-pressed not to simply shoot that person dead.

Yes - I believe I could act as judge, jury, and executioner in an instance like that.

RE: Watched something I shouldnt have
How something like that affects you has to do with your chemical balance as well as the phase of life you find yourself in.

Some people are better at compartmentalizing than others. I avoid graphic violence, but if I was a young male of reproductive age I would likely be more able to watch brutality.

Humans have committed unspeakable atrocities throughout history - public and private ones. In parts of the world, normal citizens are still regularly exposed to it - such as stoning people as punishment for perceived transgressions.

It is that side of humanity that makes me prefer other animals over many/most humans. It is also that side of humanity that makes religion so dangerous.

Evolution has tried to achieve a delicate balance there - survival of the fittest versus survival of the species. It is a built in conflict.

What do you mean "shouldn't have". It depends. No media doesn't have to use graphic violence to get ratings, but from a historical perspective, I think it is a bad idea to always censor reality.

Just a week or so ago PBS had an unfiltered, uncensored documentary of the Holocaust showing piles of dead bodies and bodies being drug to the pits and thrown in. I think if you have some sort of warning going into the video by the page posting it as a warning, that allows you to make the choice.

I have seen tons of historical violence and it is an unfortunate part of our species evolution. It isn't something we always should censor if we want to work towards a more peaceful future as a species.

I do however think our species stupidly hides behind religion and race thinking pain and suffering is a patent invented by one label. Our species ability to be cruel or compassionate is in our evolution, not the labels we assign ourselves or others.

There was also a video showing rival Hispanic drug gangs beheading 4 women from a rival gang. I think like the Holocaust, like the genocide of Native Americans, Slavery and like Isis burning a man alive and beheading Japanese reporters, while we don't need to show it everywhere uncensored all the time, we also should not hid it all the time either.

History is important and should not be sugar coated.

RE: Watched something I shouldnt have
This wasn't history. It was a random, senseless attack.

That's what bothers me the most.

I can handle war atrocities, acts of terrorism, the beheadings, the ISIS stuff. As sick as it is, at least they are doing it for some sort of reason they think is valid.

(Edit: let me rephrase that... At least I can somewhat console myself that they have some sort of motive. No matter how fucked up it is.)

This senseless act I saw on this video maybe disturbs me because I can't understand why they did it.
