Were the Philistines found?
According to this article, an excavation site in Israel uncovered a cemetery with remains of what some believe are Philistines. So DNA testing and carbon dating are being done to determine the age of these remains.

Interesting but I can only imagine that there are going to be a new round of Facebook posts about how this validates the bible and therefore Jesus. As far as I am aware, no one was disputing that many of the places and people listed in the OT were in fact actual tribes and or places. The dispute is how accurate is the OT's description of the events and movement of the people.

RE: Were the Philistines found?
The Philistines were real people, so not surprising their remains could be found at some point. The Egyptians wrote about them too. I guess their gods are real as well then? Wink

And they were Roman government agents. Yes

RE: Were the Philistines found?
The phillistines have been found to exist and the archaeology shows they had as much a culture as any of the region. The hewbrew mocking of their culture was just showboating in their histories and maybe bias because the phillistines like other cannanities had divinity worship about sex and celebrating life.

Not just worshiping a war god as a main deity.

RE: Were the Philistines found?
The real significance is the presence of bones from which dna can be extracted and teeth which could lead to oxygen isotope analysis. The Philistines were a major component of the Sea People Confederation. In spite of much speculation the source of the Sea Peoples ( Black Sea? Sardinia/Sicily? Western Med? Mainland Greece?) no scholarly consensus has emerged.

If usable samples can be extracted from the oldest bones/teeth it will give us a chance to solve the mystery at least as regards the Peleset (Philistines).

It is a stunning find.

Atheism is NOT a Religion. It's A Personal Relationship With Reality!
