Ask yourself why some hothead takes umbrage at what you thought was a carefully constructed, revealing and beneficial message to fellow atheists? Why would some think you are advocating christianity instead of challenging it? Perhaps the answer lies in the use of tone. Had you wrote... "I've noticed some interesting parallels between some Greek stuff and some christian stuff... do you think they stole these ideas? p.s. if you didn't notice my intro post ... I used to be christian but have seen the light etc. etc." ... I think the reaction would have been very different. Cultural fit, and all that. ![]() |

He'd have been totally missing out on the self-satisfied satisfaction underlying such gems as impugning the intellect of everyone on these forums ("thing atheists" in scare quotes), not to mention the self-congratulatory rhetoric like "doubting" anyone is ready to "take him seriously", and "not being wanted". Because some things "cannot be explained by conventional reasoning", don''t'cha know, and he has all the missing answers. His post is not for us. It is for him. And as such it probably achieved everything he wanted from it. Disclaimer: I do not know the preferred gender identity of the OP. All use of "he" as a pronoun in the preceding explanation is because I am lazy as fuck. ... this is my signature! |
