In keeping with GWG's 80's thread--some flashback to the 80's music...

If we came from dust, then why is there still dust?

RE: What Are You Listening To?
I love Natalie Merchant...when will this song popping up on Pandora stop making my stomach lurch?

"What's The Matter Here?"

That young boy without a name anywhere I'd know his face.
In this city the kid's my favorite.
I've seen him. I see him every day.
Seen him run outside looking for a place to hide from his father,
the kid half naked and said to myself "O, what's the matter here?"
I'm tired of the excuses everybody uses, he's their kid I stay out of it,
but who gave you the right to do this?

We live on Morgan Street;
just ten feet between and his mother, I never see her,
but her screams and cussing, I hear them every day.
Threats like: "If you don't mind I will beat on your behind,"
"Slap you, slap you silly."
made me say, "O, what's the matter here?"
I'm tired of the excuses everybody uses, he's your kid, do as you see fit,
but get this through that I don't approve of what you did to you own flesh and blood.

"If you don't sit on this chair straight
I'll take this belt from around my waist and don't think that I won't use it!"

Answer me and take your time,
what could be the awful crime he could do at such young an age?
If I'm the only witness to your madness offer me some words to balance out what I see and what I hear.
Oh these cold and lowly things that you do I suppose you do because he belongs to you
and instead of love and the feel of warmth you've given him these cuts and sores don't heal with time or with age.

And I want to say "What's the Matter here?"
But I don't dare say.

I have to wonder how much things would be different if someone would have spoken up when I was a kid. Not much tears me up...this song does, every time. Sadcryface

See here they are the bruises some were self-inflicted and some showed up along the way. - JF

RE: What Are You Listening To?
I love this song. Heard it first in the film Garden state. Very simple but a great melody and understated keys solo after the 4 bar break. Yeah great song. Must play it one day. I may get my new band to do a funk jazz version of it.

This is also good. Great band.

"Destiny"

I lie awake
I've gone to ground
I'm watching porn
In my hotel dressing gown
Now I dream of you
But I still believe
There's only enough for one in this
Lonely hotel suite

The journey's long
And it feels so bad
I'm thinking back to the last day we had.
Old moon fades into the new
Soon I know I'll be back with you
I'm nearly with you
I'm nearly with you

When I'm weak I draw strength from you
And when you're lost I know how to change your mood
And when I'm down you breathe life over me
Even though we're miles apart we are each other's destiny

On a clear day
I'll fly home to you
I'm bending time getting back to you
Old moon fades into the new
Soon I know I'll be back with you
I'm nearly with you
I'm nearly with you

When I'm weak I draw strength from you
And when you're lost I know how to change your mood
And when I'm down you breathe life over me
Even though we're miles apart we are each other's destiny

When I'm weak I draw strength from you
And when you're lost I know how to change your mood
And when I'm down you breathe life over me
Even though we're miles apart we are each other's destiny

I'll fly, I'll fly home
I'll fly home and I'll fly home

Saw it a bunch of times on cable as a Senior. Perfect timing for that stuff. Big Grin

Yeah great stuff. Pissed off with Simple minds for sacking drummer Mel Gaynor. I liked him.

I have just been chilling practicing brushes with music on youtube. On an Rebolo, of all things. I will do that with your Massive attack song now. Perfect!

EDIT: Is this the whole album?]
