It should be a goal of each one of us to seek to gain new knowledge each day, and with a thread in which to post it, we have the opportunity to benefit others as well. It could be anything from information of paramount importance, to the completely trivial. It is my personal belief that there is no "useless" information to be had.

For me, I learned that the "G" in "gmail" stands for "Google". This was made all the more impressive by the fact that I learned it from a 7-year-old.

I really should've known that. Dodgy
I've just learned that there are people who don't know what gmail is... JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!!

Oh, and I also learned it is Tuesday, I could swear it was Friday just a few hours ago... Shit.

My mom thinks "gmail" is the term for email. As in, "I need to go check my gmail." Or, "Did you get those pictures I gmailed to you?"

It was just a fucking apple man, we're sorry okay? Please stop the madness Laugh out load

I learnt that Romanian is a very fucked up language.... where you don't just have a really weird form of articles for the nouns. You also have verbs and adjectives that have different forms for female, male, plural, singular, and sometimes for a neutral as well.

Maybe it's the Coors talking but I think it's an exceptionally beautiful animal.
That's a male; the females are dull. OK, now Google 'wood duck'. Trust me.

I don't like the male wood ducks (cocks?). Their eyes are just creepy, mallards are a more handsome duck IMO.

Here is some info I got from a site on how to prepare different duck dishes.
Quote:The Mallard is probably the most familiar breed of duck. It’s the duck
with the emerald green head and white collar, and is the ancestor of
almost all domestic ducks. If your friend shot the duck you’re eating,
ask if it’s a mallard. (Farm raised mallards are available on a limited
basis.) The Mallard is the breed from which all domestic ducks, except
the Muscovy, are descended. It is smaller and tougher than the Pekin.
While the breed has very little fat, it can taste greasy and gamey.
I thought that was interesting. They also had interesting info on muffs duck, I believe. I think his family ducks are Pekin.
Quote:The Pekin, the most popular domestic duck breed, originated in northern
China thousands of years ago and was domesticated at least 2,000 years
ago (Beijing used to be called Peking by westerners). It is the most
popular type of duck today and is discussed at the beginning of this article. Don’t confuse it with Peking duck, a duck dish served with pancakes, scallions and hoisin sauce.
and
Quote:The white Pekin duck is the most popular
eating breed in America. The feathers are always white, but the beak can
be either pink or yellow. Once they could fly, but now they remain on
land. Similarly, they can swim instinctively, but are content to drink water and stay on land.

Now everyone has learned something new about ducks.

Aren't a lot of languages like this?
I know Japanese was (and so I assume the Chinese languages too considering Japanese originated from them).
And I'm fairly sure Russian does it as well? And German, I think they have masculine and famine ways of saying things, I'm sure the German could clear that up.

You'll call a couple of your mates and sit outside my house?
And then the next day you'll knock on my door and say it's all good?

edit: @Leela! OI! Plagiarism! I don't believe I'm seeing any money exchange hands for the use of that signature.
I will see you in court good sir (or mam in this case). Tongue

RE: What Did You Learn Today?
earmuffs:
1. I paid you
2. German does have three different articles and yes, some things depend on the grammatical gender of the noun. But it is a lot less fucked up and the grammatical rules apply. Romanian has some rules, but then there are literally more exceptions than words that actually apply to the rules. Crazy... What did I get myself into here....
