RE: What Did You Learn Today?
Today I learned that this one generic scream that seems to appear in pretty much every movie I've watched and many of the games I've played is called the "Wilhelm scream". I always suspected that it was an inside joke of the movie and games industry, and it appears that I was right all along.

That there is a bird called greater sage-grouse (the name alone is a killer), which has got to have the funniest mating display I've ever seen in my life (perhaps with the exception of a couple of particularly ridiculous displays by human males [Image: icon_shh.gif] ). I know I'm being immature, but I find this sight both hilarious and slightly disturbing. On more than one level.

Oh, and another thing (though I technically learnt it yesterday and I think I might have heard it before, but memory ain't what it used to be): learnt that when talking about computer programs, you sound like a boob if you say programme. Rolleyes

People really do believe in astral projections and cosmic connections. Is there no end to the batshit crazy of the world?

My ex was into that shit. She genuinely believed that her dad was capable of going into a trance and observing her from afar. They both claimed that her grandmother could do it too, and that the two of them (she and my ex's dad) used to go on "astral trips" together. Then there were a bunch of confirmation biases which stemed from her dad calling her at just the right time to tell her not to do whatever it was she had been secretly planning to do; or some other minute and coincidental thing like that.

We like to joke about creationists "watching the Flintstones like it's a documentary". Well, these nutters watch The Shining like it's a damn documentary. Rolleyes

Glad you asked Mis, I wasn't going there.
