Lawn mower/plower/harrower/roller/lumberjack(make a Python joke, I dare you)/excavator operator/combine operator/painter/semi-professional drummer. All learned in less than 10 years.

Anything my dad needs me to do on the farm basically.

Might become a kindergarden teacher. I also express also intrest in working on growing and harvesting apples on the farm.

"Don't answer that. A rhetorical question."

RE: What Do You Do/Did For A Living?
I did a bunch of knockabout stuff - was in the service for 7 years - got out - bartended, bounced -- and finally started making real money putting my mechanical aptitude to work as a machinist. I ended up working as a prototyping machinist - making one off parts, experimental stuff, and some gauge and fixture work.

Now I build shit for fun.

Current project --- restoring my significant other's 1996 Saturn SC2 that she put 340,000 miles on..... I'm taking a lunch break after just extracting the engine/tranny.... I've already got an new drivetrain built and ready to go in... Should be done in a few days. For a Michigan car that old, with that many miles - it's amazingly rust free, and quite clean......

Next project -- I just picked up two 25 foot, 10 inch scalloped lightened I beam, for an overhead crane track. I'm going to install it in my barn so I can hang a 2000 lbs hoist from it - so I can store engines and other stuff on the hay lofts............

Big Grin

The difference between prayer and masturbation - is when a guy is through masturbating - he has something to show for his efforts.

RE: What Do You Do/Did For A Living?
In my 20s I worked as a freelance musician, freelance writer, and aerobics instructor. Doing all three meant I never got bored, and I made a pretty decent living. If I got behind on my taxes I would temp for a couple of weeks to build up funds. Went to grad school in my early 30s to get an MFA so that I could teach college, so for a while I taught essay writing. When my son was diagnosed with developmental delay (later with autism), I needed a more flexible schedule, so I stopped teaching college and began instead teaching music lessons and doing medical transcription from my house. After a while I stopped doing the transcription, and now I'm purely doing music. I have a home studio, teach also at a couple of local schools' after-school and summer music programs, and perform. I have also occasionally worked as an instrumental music teacher within my school system.

My son is getting out of high school in two weeks and will be going off to college, so I'm assessing right now what I want to do next in terms of work. I'd like to cut back my teaching schedule a bit and do more performing, maybe add in some work at a college writing center. It's an exciting but uncertain time for me right now.

RE: What Do You Do/Did For A Living?
I work the pole, but unfortunately nobody pays me for that. Tongue

Software dev. Got my BS in CS then started as data processor at a "direct marketing firm" (read: ad agency). After 2 years, left to a software dev team that is building/maintaining an application for client/case management for attorneys/banks/investors. Really, I more or less work for a law firm that specializes in recovering debt (read: we are not the good guys).

Been here for almost 4 years, I'm in a senior position, and tend to spend a lot of time dealing with the business/law firm over actually coding. My role has settled into "The database guy" so that's what I'm doing, for now.

Good news is, 3 more years until I pay off my house Thumbsup

I prefer fantasy, but I have to live in reality.

I work the night shift at a multinational IT company that develops and maintains software for big corporations and the US government. My division mostly takes care of industrial clients from Germany, Switzerland, France and the Czech Republic.

This is my first full-time job and while I do enjoy working at night, I think I'm going to go back to Germany in a few years to complete an apprenticeship as IT Specialist for System Integration.

Edit: The company I work for recently acquired a new industrial client, one with an interesting past. It's a chemistry corporation that produced Zyklon-B for Germany's concentration camps and processed the gold collected from Jewish prisoners in WWII.

Our middle child is special needs. His diagnosis includes autism.
