I would be willing to bet that there are numerous gun owners who would freely admit that their guns are toys -- something that gives them pleasure and entertainment. Nothing wrong with that -- whatever turns you on. I have a $10,000 bicycle (not motorcycle, bicycle), and it's absolutely a toy. I wouldn't think of using it for commuting or grocery shopping. I have a $500 bike for that. "The difference between men and boys is the price of their toys."
For example, my cousin who had to shoot the new rifle he got this last Xmas right away. So he draws a bead on the tree in his yard everybody shoots at and lets fly. From his rocking chair in the livingroom. He's firing out a window, with the glass down and the screens on. Did I mention it was Xmas. Even in Missouri that can get cold.

He has over a dozen rifles he's only fired once. But they're not toys. Consider

That better be able to ride itself and deliver pizza and beer.....

Tongue

Nope -- it's just very light (carbon/titanium frame), very efficient, and custom built to my body dimensions and riding style. It's an absolute dream to ride. Kind of like driving a Ferrari or a Porsche rather than an old beater (like my clunker of a commuting bike).

I dunno...

I paid 10g for a new bike once, but it had an engine in it...

I'd like to believe that but I'm afraid I don't not from what I've seen. Sad

Well, if people are going to let a difference of opinion affect friendships then they've got problems not easily fixed.

People don't discuss here.
They argue.
Which is actually kind of surprising.
I've generally found that Atheists are more reasoned than average.
I had expected a refuge from the typical ax grinding and hair splitting of many discussion forums along with an appetite for black humor and delicious irreverence.
That marks my "real world" experience with atheists.
People need to keep calm. It's a fine line between stupid and clever

That's not strictly fair mate, while the gun threads are pretty aggressive and some other threads are too sometimes, for the most part people here are pretty cordial with a good sense of humour and irony and the mods and admin look out for everyone really well regardlessof their views but, stuff here is allowed that is not usually allowed on other forums including ad hominem attacks which can be confusing sometimes to newcomers not used to it, the trick is to ease in gently get established and find your niche then you'd be surprised what you can get away with saying. Wink as someone once told me this forum isn't for everyone but that's a choice for you to make, personally I hope you stay. Smile and make a happy niche.

Atheists share one thing, atheism. Otherwise they're just people.

It all should work in service of the quality of discussion. I notice alternately a tendency for hair splitting over inconsequential things and people resorting to childishness. It's not confusing. It's an obstacle to what could be more interesting.
It's nice to have good interesting thought provoking discussion and a sharing of interests. I love classic rock for instance...
