You're supposed to use them to catch the birds, then eat the birds, silly.

This is a bird dog. You just substitute the frank with a chicken strip.

Don't let those gnomes and their illusions get you down. They're just gnomes and illusions.

@everyone else wondering what the f. that is: Bavarian for "mushroom".

Not just any mushroom - usually Steinpilze and Reherl (Pfifferlinge, Chanterelles). Can't get them fresh here and spent many, many hours picking them as a kid. And feasting on them.

A pudelpointer to be precise. One of the most versatile gun dog breeds on the planet. I don't recommend eating them.

Looks like another version of the roly-poly my mother used to make, only we don't, or at least didn't, have tinned pumpkin. One variation was made with chocolate in the mix, another with grated carrot.

Things like chopped nuts could be added to the filling or jam (jello?), mincemeat or whatever used instead of the cream stuff.

Do you guys ever make the savoury version, a suet pastry with meat, usually bacon or ham, plus onions, mushrooms etc - or these days strips of bell pepper or whatever. Think the pastry was part cooked, the meat etc just about fully cooked, then all rolled up and baked on a high heat until there were crispy bits!

Guess it works with vegetable suet, here's a method for a jam roly-poly

Later: found the bacon version but it uses real suet.

Tomorrow is precious, don't ruin it by fouling up today.

Just sat down to eat at the local Cuban restaurant, ordered a pollo a al plancha with arroz y frijoles negros and maduros. Drooling
