I know it's kind of silly, but really...does anyone have another thing to say when someone sneezes other than 'bless you'? I naturally still say it, although it annoys me each time I do. I've tried 'Gesundheit', but it's not exactly natural off of my tongue lol, and my kids can't say ti well. I guess I could go with 'Good health', but that still feels awkward. So, out of curiosity, what do you say? Do you just still stick with 'God bless you', or have you figured out another good manners term?
Thanks! |

RE: What do say to a sneeze
Generally, gesundheit. But then, I learned some German from my mother (raised on a farm in rural Minnesota). Not a lot of German, though. If I know the person well, I will sometimes say "goes in tight". Occasionally they will come back with "Comes out soft!". YMMV

Gesundheit or bless you (I always leave out god) until sneeze #3. Then I say "Yowza!" Or "cut it out"--if it's my husband sneezing.
Some of my friends say chrysanthemum is a word that can fend off an incipient sneeze. |

Most of the time? "Cover your fucking mouth!"

RE: What do say to a sneeze
I usually don't say anything. We don't generally say anything for a cough or a hiccough or a burp and it's past time we did away with treating sneezing differently.
Unless you are offering a tissue or glass of water or some other practical response, why acknowledge sneezing? Atheism: it's not just for communists any more! America July 4 1776 - November 8 2016 RIP |

RE: What do say to a sneeze
I do like my mother, I say " ka-snoozerbugs!" I have no idea what a ka-snoozerbug is but it's fun to say, so that's what I say.
Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors.... on Donald J. Trump: He is deformed, crooked, old, and sere, Ill-fac’d, worse bodied, shapeless every where; Vicious, ungentle, foolish, blunt, unkind, Stigmatical in making, worse in mind. |
