I have to ask, is there a specific reason for the whole cat thing or is it just one of those random things?

Well it's one of those always been that way things. Is there something wrong with it? I've always been this way I just learned as a kid that it's odd. Later after social networking it became ok to be an outcast, as odd ideas were more common among niche groups.

I'm not a non believer, I believe in the possibility of anything. I just don't let the actuality of something be determined by a 3rd party.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I'm just curious, or if you want to be less charitable, nosey.

RE: What do you want to be when/if you grow up?
I'm fine with curious. It's just that some things are really simply the way things are. I've never really disliked my cat stuff so I don't bother to really dig into the complex psychological reasons I have this odd desire. Plenty of people have their own little quirky desires and it's great if you can fulfill them. I am very open about my kinks because there really is no importance in me hiding them. Those who aren't interested aren't gonna get that offended by a cat. Let's say it's something I was conscious about before, and when I stopped being so doubting everything just became a benefit for me.

I'm not a non believer, I believe in the possibility of anything. I just don't let the actuality of something be determined by a 3rd party.

RE: What do you want to be when/if you grow up?
I replied to the OP flippantly in my first post (I was in a funny mood) but I have a more serious answer as well.

My biggest ambition in life (apart from finishing and publishing my book) is to be as self-sufficient as it is possible to be.

I already have a solar system that I am planning to expand next year to get off the grid completely (now I have a 30% capacity) and now that our greenhouse is finished (except for the inside furnishings etc.), next year I will start growing our fruit and vegetables year around. Being vegetarian, it will be a big step toward independence.

We don’t owe anybody anything, pay cash for what we need, and our small government pension and the income from our small online book business covers all our needs.

When all these tasks are finished, I will start on the next project which will be an animal rescue shelter, mostly for cats. I think these will keep us busy for the duration.

Of course, god only knows what I will do when/if I ever grow up!

Guess I was a bit flippant as well and also have a more serious answer. I don't want to be anything, I just want to be for as long as is tolerable.

ellenjanuary.

That's a trine, btw. Not only will I never die, I shall never attain adulthood; I am an artist and a naive philosopher, I speak three universal languages, and anywhere I go, I am already there.

Things to do before I run out of neck? Formalize Chaotic Determinism, derive the human variant of the Witwiki symbolism, use the Pure Number hypothesis to unify QM and relativity, and abolish religion. And because it's for my Gwynnies - no sweat. Wink

Cantor, here is an example of how ambitious plans get started. I did have similar plans to what you mentioned.

This is the story:

My ambitions were modest: first, to develop my Unified Field Theory (a single equation explaining the Universe); then, to provide the theoretical foundation for an anti-gravity device that would revolutionize science and technology, incidentally creating Heaven on Earth.

With the ink still wet on my Diploma, I stood in the job placement center, talking to an increasingly frustrating counsellor. Though I had already told him what I wanted, he was being obstructive.

“I have here a position in the light-bulb factory; you could work on developing a longer-lasting filament,” he suggested.

“No”, I said firmly.

“Well, how about developing a better-insulating transistor-casing”, he tried again. “I have two positions there”.

“No” I said, starting to lose patience.

“The Geophysical Institute is looking for physicists” he offered. “They provide rubber boots...”

I snorted.

“I've got it!” he exclaimed. “A good position in the Cheese Factory. They need someone to measure viscosity.”

I said nothing. He glanced at my face and quickly looked away.

After a while, he said very quietly, making sure nobody heard: “You could join the first computer company in Budapest. They are looking for anybody with a scientific background. You wouldn't do Physics, but –“ He looked around even more carefully, lowered his voice even further and leaned quite close to my ear, “- this could be your ticket out. Sooner or later they would have to send you abroad. In the West, you could research whatever you liked.”

So I did and arrived in Canada a year later. I have been having fun with both Physics and computers ever since, but I am still working on my Unified Field Theory! Big Grin
