RE: What does having faith mean to you?
When I say I have faith in something, I mean that I have reasons to think it will do well based on past experience. So it's confidence, really.

Faith without evidence is like a magnet. It attracts the first really big thing it happens to come across, whether it's useful or not, and then there isn't room for anything else.

I have a website here which discusses the issues and terminology surrounding religion and atheism. It's hopefully user friendly to all.

From whom? You cannot act independently? Huh

Here's some instructions from the bible. Would you follow these, Alla?

Leviticus 20:9: If anyone curses his father or mother, he must be put to death.

20:10: If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife—with the wife of his neighbor—both the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death.

Does that not sound just a little harsh? Would you, Alla, really kill your own child were it to curse you?

Perhaps it's time to think for oneself?
I will put it this way: I am glad I don't have to follow those instructions.
I am glad that I am born in different times in different society.

P.S. I can act independently when I have enough knowledge and experience. When I don't I ask somebody who has knowledge to help me so I can make the best possible choices.

English is my second language.
I AM DEPLORABLE AND IRREDEEMABLE
SHE PERSISTED WE RESISTED

As an atheist, I have faith in the science that says the sun will rise tomorrow, whereas the theist has faith that their God will make it rise.

Same word, different context.

I'm a creationist... I believe that man created God.

"Faith" is presently a loaded word, so I typically avoid using it.

I guess you could say "atheist" is also loaded, but I have a certain self-interest in promoting its proper usage.

Undecided

Quote:FAITH
1. complete trust or confidence in someone or something
2. strong belief in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual conviction rather than proof

That's the official definition, and for that reason I don't have "faith" in anything. I trust in so much as "this is your job, don't F it up" but wouldn't be shocked/surprised if they did.

"Faith" to me, especially in the latter example above in relation to religion, means blindly accepting something without thinking about it first. For example, I'm all for Science, yet I don't 100% take new discoveries as "the answer" or even older/current theories until I've looked into them myself. I believe Evolution is a thing, because I've looked at the evidence and compared that to the "other" answer ["LOL god did it"] which is garbage.

RE: What does having faith mean to you?
"faith" denotes wishful thinking.

Faith is always used in an optimistic way.
We have faith in things that we wish to happen.
