No idea.

I immediately disconnected after the nightmare of school ended.

Shoulda done it sooner.

RE: What happened to the people you grew up with?
I had a good friend from high school who was on the wrestling team with me. We kept in touch through college with trips to each others' colleges. We even had some contact when I was in graduate school and even when I started my career in academics. After that, we lost contact, but I always thought that we would reconnect and reengage where we left off. Well, my mom went to his father's funeral and asked about my friend and was informed that he was in jail. A google search indicated that he had two convictions, one for child pornography and another for soliciting sex from a minor (he was caught in a sting operation). To say I was shocked would be an understatement.

You and me both. The day I left the dusty little town I lived in throughout my high school years was the last day I ever had any contact with that place or anyone who lived in it. We moved a lot after I was 10 so I didn't have any long term friends from childhood.

I don't do facebook either, thank god, so my past is contained in a memory bank and that's where it stays.

He is deformed, crooked, old, and sere,
Ill-fac’d, worse bodied, shapeless every where;
Vicious, ungentle, foolish, blunt, unkind,
Stigmatical in making, worse in mind.

I know the feeling...

One of my old motorcycle riding partners (and I do mean old -- he was in his 70's) knocked up his girlfriends granddaughter who was living with them... She was 13.... She turned him in when she got an abortion. The woman at the clinic who notified police was a mutual friend...... She was thunderstruck.....

It's like WTF were you THINKING, dude?????

He did 12 years...

He's out now -- nobody's seen him...

Nobody wants to...

My friend from middle school is studying physics but he's regretting it because of how much work is required. He tends to complain about it on Facebook and talks about drinking often. Someone I used to hang out with before that was apparently diagnosed with schizophrenia, but I'm not in contact with them anymore. Another kid who had mental issues (he was "the weird kid" at school) was working at a Walmart last I saw, and grew quite a bit and was pretty big. He seemed alright but I have no idea how he is mentally now. Those are the ones I know of currently.

I know it's really not an answer but it is the first thing that came to mind when I saw this thread.

But as if to knock me down, reality came around
And without so much as a mere touch, cut me into little pieces

I'm still good friends with 10 or so people from highschool, and maybe 10 or so people from college.

My friends from highschool are all doing pretty well, earning middle class lives. My friends from college have interestingly enough been less successful. All in all they are all still good people though.

I prefer fantasy, but I have to live in reality.

RE: What happened to the people you grew up with?
I have only stayed in touch with one guy from my childhood. I call him the witchdoctor because he became a psychiatrist. My wife and I moved to Colorado from South Dakota in 1972 and the witchdoctor moved to Colorado at the same time. He and I hunted and fished together throughout our younger years and throughout our adult lives. He moved to Maryland a couple years ago to be near grandkids.

My sister is the best one from my youth. She got rich as a lawyer doing products liability cases. She then became Hubert Humphrey's chief speech writer, and after his death she worked for a variety of Democratic politicians including Ted Kennedy and Harry Reid. [Most of you are too young to even know who Hubert Humphrey was and you probably don't even know Ted Kennedy.] In 1990, Bill Clinton appointed her U. S. Attorney for Nevada, a position she held until Bush was elected. After her retirement from that job, she became Director of the Nature Conservancy. She retired from that eventually although she does go back to work for them from time to time as a troubleshooter.

The other one who made the news was my cousin Carl. He is doing life in the South Dakota Penitentiary. Some 50+ years after he graduated from high school, he went over to the home of a guy who had bullied him in high school. When the bully answered the door, Carl asked his name to make sure he had the right guy, then he double tapped him [shot him twice in the head]. I always liked Carl and I still do.

I'm the most famous person from my childhood.

Check out my now-defunct atheism blog. It's just a blog, no ads, no revenue, no gods.

What happened to the people you grew up with? Do you know anyone who became famous through something good or bad. Are there people who are successful who you thought would amount to nothing??

Most have grown up to possess wide asses and narrow minds.
