Astronomy has been a fascination of mine for many years. I owned a simple 10" dobsonian telescope and I'd like to get something smaller that I can carry on the road. When I worked overseas I got sea southern constelations. I miss that

RE: What hobbies do you like to do?
Hi,

I ride two sports motorcycles, a Yamaha R1 and Yamaha YZF Thunderace.

At 68 yrs, I'm pushing the envelope for this kind of activity, but when the bikes are on song over the moorland roads, I could be 16. Had a couple of accidents (hospital jobs) in recent years and also set my top speed track record in the last 2 yrs. That was 160mph on a one mile straight. I think the R1 could make 170mph, but I was running out of road.

Back in the day, the old bikes bikes were too heavy and didn't have wheelie power, but the R1 will lift the front wheel in a second; dangerously addictive!

RE: What hobbies do you like to do?
Many years ago, I guy I knew had a 3-cylinder 350 Kawasaki. i knew they were peaky, so I was riding it along in first gear, slowly opening the throttle. At some RPM, it just took off, pulling a wheelie. I wasn't ready for it, and was hanging on the handlebars, trying to unscrew the throttle with my weight hanging from the handlebars. finally got it back on the ground before straining myself through a chain link fence. Being young and foolish, I thought, "Hey, that was fun!". So I tightened my grip on the seat, and did a few more across the parking lot. I got that out of my system with no bones sticking out, but it's been 45 years since I did that. Oh, to be young and immortal, again!

BoT, I like shooting, too. But I have so much on my plate that I haven't been in a few years. I'll have to rectify that, soon.

They also made a 500 and a 750 triple..... They were 2 stroke....

Lotsa guys got munched on the 750's -- waaaayy more power than the limited suspension and braking systems of the day could effectively handle...... Plus - drug use was more common while riding back then....

heh

Hi OB,

Nice to talk with a fellow biker. Smile

After my first concussion I was thinking like you. After the second concussion it didn't seem so bothersome. I don't have full use of my left hand (can't play the guitar no more) but OK with the clutch lever.

Mainly I'm concerned with money and insurance costs. Only claimed for one of the offs so far.

What do you ride? I love the R1, but the Ace is a little docile. Been thinking of trading up to a zx12r. It was a 10r that took me down, but the 12r is a well planted ride. the R1 is a peach but won't break 200mph. The derestricted zx12rs are good for up to 220mph, and we have some airfield meets that can accommodate the runs.

Guess its on my bucket list. Drinking Beverage

Fireball,

A 2/stroke in the power band is a thing made in heaven.

I like shooting too. Here in the UK we mostly make do with air rifles and crossbows cos of the gun laws. For powder burner we have to socialise in clubs, and then we can go to 22lr, 303 and more. I shoot 25yds and 50yds with a PCP rifle and that's good fun. The crossbow is a lethal b***** but most satisfying if you keep fingers out of the way. Thumbsup:

I lost my "need for speed" a long time ago.... Last really fast bike I had was a 88 Harley FXRP -- the police special -- stripped, re-piped and tweaked the intake and carburetor .... My ex ran it through 1/4 mile in just under 12 seconds...... top speed was just a fuzz under 120 mph...... Of course I out weighed her by about 75 lbs at the time so I didn't get quite as fast....
