Genetic manipulation and increased robotization will make obsolete the practice of baby pumping. There may be some growing pains, but in the end the process of evolution always gets the last word.

Evolution doesn't involve either of those things.

Evolution doesn't involve either of those things.

Not traditionally, since they haven't ever been available before. But In a world where they do become permanently available our bodies will indeed adapt to the change over time.

If, for example, it eventually becomes standard for babies to be developed out of the womb and with intentional genetic manipulation, and given the fact that the nature of the female reproductive system has itself been a significant influence on certain aspects of our evolutionary path, that and other technologies will make viable the survivability of potentially advantageous mutations and the obsoletion of others.

Then there's cultural evolution which tends to occur quite rapidly. If, for example, our tendencies as hypersexual mammals can be controlled, either through genetic manipulation or the availability of superior birth control or stimulated options, in conjunction with a decreased demand and in fact eventual obsoletion of conventional pregnancy, we will adapt to that change and the way we adapt will influence our evolutionary path.

The UN says that world population will plateau at 9 billion in 2050.

However, Wolfgang Lutz, director of the Vienna Institute of Demography says; "Our most likely scenario comes out somewhat lower than the current United Nations projections", and suggests population will peak at 9.4 billion around 2070 and start a slow decline to nine billion by the end of the century.

"The end of world population growth is still to be expected this century", he said.

I'll state officially that I think the projections are wrong due to their exclusion of technological projections, and that the population will begin to decline in the not so distant future.

We'll come back to this thread in 30 years to see how things are going Tongue

It would take a long time for all the continents to cram into one huge land-mass again. I think the traffic would be horrible.

Yabut, where would our food come from? Consider

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.

China can continue its island building effort until it encompasses the world.

And we can use our waste (poop, sweat, etc) and recycle dead bodies into reconstituted food once we have adequate chemical manipulation technology.

Maybe keep some land designated for farmland, and completely transition to labgrown meat? Also, vertical farms, but not sure how large or numerous they would have to be. Oh, and getting fresh water would probably be a huge issue eventually.
