What if the Republicans ran everything?
I watched Matt Taibbi from the Rolling Stone on Bill Maher a week ago and just finished reading his article, Why Isn't Wall Street In Jail? Couple that with the protests going on in Wisconsin got me thinking, what if the Republicans controlled everything in government? Scary proposition...

RE: What if the Republicans ran everything?
We had that from 2000 to 2006, so we don't have to guess.

As a side note, I love Taibbi. I follow his blog and am currently reading "Griftopia", although I'm struggling with it for 2 reasons: first, I knew about most of what he writes about in the book (although I have picked up a few new nuggets) and second, every time I read about how badly we all got fucked, I want to vomit.

I remember it well, but at least there was a semblance of an opposition at the time.

The worst part is, for all the hatred that the right heaps on Obama, he could go down in history as the 'best' Republican president since Reagan.

Don't even get me started.....

Btw, I was a Republican for many years, until the party was hijacked by all the loons. But, as far as the two parties are concerned .... a plague on both their houses.

I was going to say I'm not even sure what a Repubican is anymore? I'm sure the textbook definition needs to be tweaked a bit to fit the modern clowns.

I hate it when people suggest that both parties are equally bad. One party is resposible for "The new deal", Unemployment insurance, welfare, medicare, social security, child labor laws, the 4o hour work week, civil rights laws, hate crime laws ,envirnomental regulations & attempted wall street reform. The other party fought hard to prevent these programs and still tries to weeken then to this day.

RE: What if the Republicans ran everything?
It depends on what kind of Republicans they are. They had complete power for a few years and managed to spend like a Democrat. The Democrats had complete power and managed to spend like...well, Democrats. Each side will play politics in order to pander to their base even if the other side has a good idea. Even as a conservative I'd say Republicans would do nothing much different than Democrats. They'd waste an assload of tax payer money on pet projects that result in little more than feelgood soundbites election time. They'd tell us it's for our own good because Government always knows better than us peons. The only good side is that Republicans typically spend more on science funding than Democrats. Despite talking out the side of their mouths to pander to the religious in this country.

Liberty loving, gun owning Atheist. Don't worry it confuses the right as well.

Both Democrats and Republicans are 2 sides of the same coin, two factions of the Business Party

Agreed. There are things that suck about both parties, but to suggest that they equally suck for the same reasons is just absurd.
